AWC and OCBC Sign $200 Million Sustainability-Linked Loan

AWC and OCBC Sign $200 Million Sustainability-Linked Loan

Asset World Corp and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation have signed a $200 million sustainability-linked loan, marking the first strategic financing partnership between the Thai integrated lifestyle real estate group and the Singapore-headquartered bank. The loan, worth approximately 6.6 billion Thai baht, will support AWC's continued investment across its hospitality, commercial office and lifestyle destination portfolio. The source release did not specify the sustainability performance targets or key performance indicators tied to the loan's pricing structure.

Sustainability-linked loans typically tie a borrower's interest rate to whether it meets predefined sustainability performance targets, giving the borrower a financial incentive to hit those targets rather than simply directing loan proceeds toward specific green projects, which is the model used in a green bond or green loan instead. AWC said it maintains an interest-bearing debt-to-equity ratio below the industry average, a detail the company points to as evidence of financial discipline that preserves capacity to continue executing its growth strategy alongside the new financing.

The partnership positions both companies around a shared interest in Thailand's tourism sector, with AWC citing its Building Better Future mission and what it calls a 3BETTERs framework, covering better planet, better people and better prosperity, as the internal sustainability framework guiding its development projects. OCBC framed the deal within its broader ASEAN regional strategy, positioning Thailand as an attractive market particularly within tourism and related sectors.

Wallapa Traisorat, chief executive officer and president of AWC, said the company was delighted to begin its partnership with OCBC to strengthen sustainable economic growth and create long-term value across the tourism industry and its surrounding ecosystem. Elaine Lam, head of global corporate banking at OCBC, said the loan reflected a shared commitment to sustainable development, with the bank looking to deepen its relationship with AWC and support its long-term development plans.
