Nature Strategy
We help our clients to craft credible nature strategies with clear targets and actions — tackling dependencies, impacts, and risks while unlocking opportunities that drive value for business, nature and people
Reporting & Analysis
We help our clients to identify and assess their nature-related impacts, dependencies, risks, and opportunities (DIROs) — the building blocks of all nature reporting and strategies. Our approach translates complex science and regulation into clear insights, giving you the evidence base to comply with key frameworks and regulations and build strategies that are grounded in data, not assumptions.
Building the Business Case for Nature
How we can help you? Most businesses know nature is important. However, they struggle to turn that awareness into action, especially amongst competing priorities. We provide our clients the clarity, confidence and capacity they need to move forward — transforming “nature” from a vague sustainability concern into a core business priority with measurable value. How do we do this? 1. Understanding: We help our clients to understand why nature matters to their business model, sector, and supply chain. 2. Framing: We frame nature and biodiversity issues internally in financial, operational, and strategic terms. 3. Evidence: We build a clear, evidence-based business case that secures board-level buy-in and resources. Fola works across multiple sectors and industries. We apply lessons learned from diverse sectors to deliver credible, strategic outcomes. We provide our clients the clarity, confidence and capacity they need to move forward — transforming “nature” from a vague sustainability concern into a core business priority with measurable value.

Case StudyOVO Energy: Nature Reporting & Strategy
The Challenge In 2023, OVO Energy committed to becoming an early adopter of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). To meet this commitment, the company needed to understand how its operations and value chain both depend on and impact nature. The challenge was to assess material dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities (DIROs) across OVO’s supply chain and energy portfolio — and use this insight to develop a coherent, organisation-wide nature strategy aligned with TNFD and emerging disclosure expectations. The Solution Fola conducted a comprehensive DIRO assessment across its key supply chain activities, identifying nature-related risks and opportunities linked to business activities. We then applied a location-based analysis to OVO’s Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) sites, using spatial data and ecosystem integrity indicators to explore site-level impacts and dependencies. Building on these findings, Fola supported OVO to integrate nature considerations into its wider corporate strategy and reporting frameworks. The Impact Enabled a clear view of material dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities across OVO’s supply chain. Delivered location-specific insights at select PPA sites to inform risk management and disclosure readiness. Supported the development of a TNFD-aligned nature strategy, integrating existing initiatives into a cohesive roadmap for action.

Case StudyWWF: Transitioning finance towards sustainable land use
The Challenge Each year, an estimated US $7 trillion in public and private capital continues to flow into nature-negative sectors such as fossil fuels, conventional agriculture, and construction — while only US $200 billion supports nature-based solutions that sustain a stable climate and healthy ecosystems. Redirecting this imbalance is critical, yet the mechanisms for doing so remain complex. The key challenge of this work was to identify how to channel capital effectively toward regenerative models, while creating bankable pathways for investors to manage risk and unlock further investment in nature-positive outcomes. The Solution Fola supported WWF in developing a comprehensive global mapping of financial instruments that can accelerate investment in nature-positive transitions. Combining an extensive literature and data review with consultations across finance and conservation stakeholders, we created a strategic “universe” of mechanisms — from blended-finance structures and sustainability-linked bonds to guarantees and concessional instruments — designed to redirect capital flows and reduce land-use conversion. The Impact Produced a decision-ready landscape of financial instruments to guide investment toward nature-positive opportunities. Developed targeted case studies to inform WWF’s engagement with financial institutions. Equipped WWF with actionable insights and pathways to influence policy dialogue and mobilise large-scale finance for the transition away from land conversion.

Case StudyGlobal Agriculture Business
The Challenge Our client manages a global agriculture supply chain spanning over 100,000 farms, yet despite strong progress on decarbonisation, modern slavery, and regenerative agriculture, it had limited visibility into its nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks, and opportunities (DIROs). The challenge was not only to generate insight but to translate findings into business-relevant actions that drive cost-effective, on-the-ground improvements for nature and resilience. The Solution Fola conducted a comprehensive DIRO assessment across the entire supply chain, including deep-dive analyses for over 1,000 farms. To convert these insights into actions, Fola assessed the existing portfolio of nature initiatives and developed an overarching approach for the businesses to address it's nature-related dependnecies, impacts risks and opportunities and drive business value. The Impact Generated a clear understanding of material DIROs across a global supply chain. Delivered actionable insights and plans to protect and restore nature while mitigating business risk. Established a TNFD-aligned framework to integrate nature into strategy, reporting, and investment decisions.
