Speeki Unveils Whole-Programme Sustainability Management Standard

Speeki Unveils Whole-Programme Sustainability Management Standard

Speeki has published SPK CSMS1000:2026, a 56-clause standard the company describes as governing an organisation's entire sustainability programme as a single managed system, rather than treating environmental, health and safety, and anti-bribery management as separate disciplines. The standard is Speeki's own proprietary framework rather than one developed through an established multi-stakeholder standard-setting body such as ISO or the Science Based Targets initiative.

According to Speeki, the standard addresses a gap it identifies in existing management system standards: while frameworks such as ISO 14001 for environmental management, ISO 45001 for health and safety, ISO 37001 for anti-bribery and ISO 50001 for energy each govern their own domain effectively, none of them individually or collectively addresses how an organisation manages sustainability as a whole at board level. SPK CSMS1000:2026 maps a sustainability programme from identifying impacts, risks and opportunities through to internal controls over sustainability reporting, drawing on principles from several existing ISO standards.

The standard is structured to distinguish between topics an organisation must manage internally and topics that must be externally disclosed, requiring organisations to govern the full set of material sustainability topics rather than only those that meet external disclosure thresholds. Speeki has made the standard publicly available at no cost, stating that every requirement organisations would be assessed against is disclosed in advance.

Founder and chief executive Scott Lane said the standard was built around the idea that a genuine management system, rather than sustainability commitments alone, is what demonstrates whether an organisation's sustainability programme is functioning in practice. No independent verification of the standard's development process, governance structure, or adoption by any organisation was included in the announcement.
