Ahold Delhaize has signed a 10-year virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with Rezolv Energy covering approximately 370 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually from two wind and solar projects in Romania. Announced on 5 November 2026, the agreement will support the development of the Dama Solar and Dunarea East Wind Farm projects, both expected to begin commercial operations in 2029. The deal will enable Ahold Delhaize to match its projected European electricity consumption with renewable electricity by 2030, five years ahead of its original 2035 target.
The agreement covers approximately 14% of the combined output of the two projects, which are expected to generate 2,580 GWh of electricity annually. Dama Solar, a planned 1.3 GWp solar facility in Arad County, will feature approximately two million solar panels and produce an estimated 1,800 GWh annually. The 300 MW Dunarea East Wind Farm in Constanța County is expected to generate another 780 GWh. Together, the projects could produce enough electricity to meet the annual consumption of approximately 1.6 million households.

Under the vPPA, Ahold Delhaize will receive Guarantees of Origin for ten years, beginning in 2029. These certificates will support renewable electricity matching across its European operations without requiring the company to purchase physical electricity directly from the Romanian facilities. The agreement is Ahold Delhaize's fifth and final European power purchase agreement under its current programme, following earlier contracts in the Netherlands, Spain, Romania and Finland.
Lenka Duskova, CFO of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia, said, "We are pleased to support the development of these wind and solar projects in Romania, which will add new renewable capacity to the grid while contributing to a more sustainable future for the communities we serve." Alastair Hammond, CEO of Rezolv Energy, described the agreement as one of the largest corporate renewable electricity contracts signed in Southeastern Europe.
The agreement supports Ahold Delhaize's broader commitment to achieving net-zero emissions across its own operations, covering Scope 1 and Scope 2, by 2040. For Rezolv Energy, the long-term corporate contract adds a commercial commitment supporting the development of its Romanian renewable energy portfolio.
