EcoVadis has announced a strategic partnership with the sustainability data platform Watershed aimed at improving the quality and reliability of Scope 3 emissions reporting across global supply chains. The collaboration combines EcoVadis’ supplier sustainability data infrastructure with Watershed’s carbon accounting platform to help companies replace estimated emissions figures with verified supplier-specific data.
The initiative addresses one of the most persistent challenges in corporate climate reporting: the lack of reliable Scope 3 emissions data. Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions generated throughout a company’s value chain, often account for the majority of a corporation’s carbon footprint but remain difficult to measure accurately due to limited supplier-level reporting.
Strengthening Data Accuracy in Scope 3 Reporting
The partnership enables companies to integrate supplier emissions data collected through EcoVadis directly into Watershed’s carbon accounting and analytics platform. By replacing industry averages and estimates with primary supplier data, enterprises can gain a clearer understanding of their supply chain emissions and make more informed procurement decisions.
EcoVadis will act as the primary data engine in the collaboration, supporting direct supplier reporting, sustainability assessments, and supplier engagement. The platform’s supplier network provides structured sustainability data collected through questionnaires, evidence verification, and standardized reporting frameworks.
Watershed will function as the carbon accounting and analytics engine, allowing organizations to centralize, model, and analyze emissions data to support climate reporting and target tracking. The platform is widely used by large companies to manage emissions data, track decarbonization strategies, and prepare audit-ready climate disclosures.
Together, the two platforms aim to create an integrated workflow that allows organizations to move from data collection to analysis and reporting within a single system.

Launch of the Product Carbon Footprint Calculator
The partnership also coincides with the launch of the EcoVadis Product Carbon Footprint Calculator, a tool designed to help suppliers measure emissions associated with individual products. The calculator relies on primary supplier data and has been developed to increase transparency across complex supply chains.
The tool is available free of charge for suppliers and supports reporting across twelve industrial sectors, including plastics, metals, electronics, and machinery manufacturing. It is available in thirteen languages to improve accessibility for global suppliers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises that often lack the resources to conduct detailed emissions analysis.
By enabling suppliers to calculate product-level carbon footprints, the tool is expected to improve data granularity and support more precise supply chain emissions accounting.
Introducing Carbon Data Reliability Levels
To address concerns about the reliability of supplier-reported emissions data, EcoVadis has also introduced a four-level carbon data reliability framework. The system assigns a reliability rating to each set of supplier-reported emissions data based on supporting evidence, validation checks, and anomaly detection.
This approach is designed to help companies distinguish between verified data and less reliable estimates, providing procurement teams and sustainability managers with greater confidence in the data used for climate reporting.
The framework also supports regulatory compliance as governments and financial regulators introduce stricter requirements for emissions disclosure and supply chain transparency.

Building a Connected Carbon Data Network
The partnership with Watershed forms part of EcoVadis’ broader strategy to develop a connected carbon data ecosystem across corporate supply chains. The company has already established integrations with other climate software providers including Sweep and Normative, allowing emissions data to move between platforms used by large enterprises.
By linking supplier reporting tools with enterprise carbon accounting systems, the initiative aims to improve data transparency and reduce the fragmentation that often complicates Scope 3 reporting.
As companies face increasing pressure from regulators, investors, and customers to demonstrate credible climate transition plans, the availability of reliable supply chain emissions data is becoming a critical component of corporate sustainability strategies.
