Airbus Secures Long-Term Renewable Power Supply with TotalEnergies in Europe

Airbus Secures Long-Term Renewable Power Supply with TotalEnergies in Europe

Airbus has signed two long-term power purchase agreements with TotalEnergies to supply renewable electricity to its major operations in Germany and the United Kingdom, strengthening the aircraft manufacturer’s efforts to decarbonize its industrial footprint across Europe.

The agreements will deliver a combined 3.3 terawatt-hours of renewable electricity over their duration, supporting Airbus’ strategy to expand clean energy use while reducing operational emissions at some of its most energy-intensive sites.

Long-Term Renewable Supply to Cover Half of Site Electricity Demand

Under the agreements, Airbus will source baseload electricity from newly developed renewable energy assets with a total installed capacity of 200 megawatts. The long-term supply contracts extend into the next decade and are scheduled to begin delivering power in 2027.

Once operational, the renewable electricity is expected to cover around 50 percent of Airbus’ total electricity demand at its sites in Germany and the UK. The company said the structure of the agreements will help ensure a stable supply of low-carbon power while reducing exposure to energy market volatility.

Clean Energy as a Core Pillar of Airbus’ Decarbonization Strategy

Airbus has identified energy efficiency and renewable electricity procurement as key levers in reducing emissions across its manufacturing and assembly operations. Florent Massou dit Labaquère, Executive Vice President of Operations for Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, said the agreements demonstrate the company’s long-term commitment to lowering the carbon intensity of its sites.

According to Airbus, securing reliable renewable electricity through long-term contracts is essential to meeting its emissions reduction targets while maintaining operational resilience at scale.

TotalEnergies Expands Renewable Power Portfolio Across Key European Markets

For TotalEnergies, the agreements align with its broader ambition to scale renewable electricity production across Europe. The company has set a target to exceed 100 terawatt-hours of net electricity production by 2030 and had reached 32 gigawatts of installed gross renewable generation capacity as of October 2025.

Germany and the UK are among the markets where TotalEnergies is rapidly expanding both renewable generation capacity and customer supply, positioning the company as a long-term partner for industrial decarbonization.

Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables and Power at TotalEnergies, said the new power purchase agreements build on the company’s growing clean energy presence in both countries and reinforce its collaboration with major industrial customers.

Partnership Builds on Earlier Sustainable Aviation Fuel Collaboration

The renewable electricity agreements follow a sustainable aviation fuel partnership announced by the two companies in 2024. Under that collaboration, TotalEnergies supplies Airbus with sustainable aviation fuel for more than half of its European needs, alongside joint research and development efforts focused on advancing next-generation fuels.

By combining clean power procurement with sustainable fuel development, the partnership reflects a broader, multi-layered approach to reducing emissions across both industrial operations and aviation systems.

Industrial Decarbonization Through Integrated Energy Solutions

The new agreements highlight a growing trend among large industrial players toward long-term renewable power procurement as a means of decarbonizing operations at scale. For Airbus, the deal supports a shift toward cleaner energy inputs across its European footprint. For TotalEnergies, it reinforces the role of renewable electricity as a core pillar of its evolving energy portfolio.

As energy-intensive industries face increasing pressure to cut emissions while maintaining competitiveness, long-term renewable power agreements are emerging as a critical tool in bridging climate targets with operational reliability.
