Chomps Teams Up with 4ocean to Fight Ocean Plastic Pollution

Chomps, a popular US meat snack brand, kicked off an exciting partnership with 4ocean on May 6, 2025, promising to match every pound of plastic used in its packaging with a pound removed from the ocean. This bold move tackles the growing plastic pollution crisis while showing how businesses can step up for the planet.

A Simple Plan to Make a Big Difference

Plastic is tricky for snacks like Chomps’ meat sticks, which need packaging to stay fresh. With sustainable options still limited, Chomps decided to act now instead of waiting. For every pound of plastic they use, they’ll fund 4ocean to pull an equal amount from oceans and coastlines.

“We know we’re part of the plastic problem, and we’re ready to lead on fixing it,” said Rashid Ali, Chomps’ co-founder and CEO.

The UN says eight million tons of plastic flood the oceans yearly, and without action, there could be more plastic than fish by 2050. Chomps’ pledge is a practical step to curb this, buying time to explore greener packaging down the road.

4ocean’s Cleanup Power

4ocean, based in Boca Raton, Florida, has already yanked over 40 million pounds of trash from waterways since 2017. Their crews work daily, scooping plastic from open waters and stopping it within 50 kilometers of shorelines before it drifts out. Some plastic gets recycled into products like bracelets, while the rest is turned into energy for homes and businesses.

To keep things open and honest, Chomps will share regular updates on their website, complete with photos and verified data from 4ocean’s cleanups. This lets fans see the real impact of their purchases.

Cool Bracelets and Consumer Connection

Starting May 8, 2025, anyone spending $50 or more on Chomps’ website gets a limited-edition bracelet made partly from ocean plastic, crafted by 4ocean’s artisans in Bali and Guatemala. It’s a fun way to link snack lovers directly to the cleanup mission.

“This partnership sets a standard for what companies can do,” said 4ocean co-founder Alex Schulze, noting how it inspires others to join the fight.

Why It’s a Big Deal?

Chomps’ move comes as 83% of consumers want brands to care about the environment, per a 2024 PwC survey. By teaming up with 4ocean, they’re not just cleaning up their own mess—they’re pushing other businesses to think about their impact too.

The partnership also builds on Chomps’ eco efforts. In 2023, they cut 100,000 pounds of plastic from their pouches, with plans to double that in 2025. They’ve also donated over a million meat sticks to community partners, showing they’re serious about doing good.

What’s Next?

This isn’t a quick fix, as co-founder Pete Maldonado admitted: “It won’t solve everything overnight, but we’re committed to doing our part.”

Chomps and 4ocean plan to keep tracking progress, sharing stories from cleanup sites, and exploring ways to cut plastic use for good. With ocean plastic a growing crisis, this partnership is a hopeful sign that small actions can spark big change.
