Volkswagen Group delivered 678,700 battery-electric vehicles worldwide in the first nine months of 2026, down 5.4% from a year earlier, but its European EV business continued to strengthen. BEV deliveries in Europe rose 12.1% to 586,100 vehicles, while third-quarter deliveries increased 19.6%. Around 40% of Volkswagen’s current European order book is now made up of all-electric models, up sharply from the end of 2025.
The company said its European BEV order book has doubled compared with year-end 2025, while BEV order intake increased by more than 60% in the third quarter. Volkswagen’s recently launched Electric Urban Car Family, including the ID. Polo, ID. Cross, Škoda Epiq and CUPRA Raval, has generated nearly 150,000 orders.
Europe Is Driving Volkswagen’s EV Momentum
Europe remains Volkswagen Group’s strongest electric vehicle market. BEVs represented 20% of its European deliveries in the first nine months of the year, up from 18% a year earlier, while total vehicle deliveries in the region increased 1.7% to 2.96 million.
"In our home market, we are seeing a significantly accelerated trend towards all-electric vehicles," said Martin Sander, Member of Volkswagen Group’s Extended Executive Committee for Sales. "Overall, one in five of the models we’ve delivered in Europe is all-electric, and in our order book, that share is as high as around 40 percent."

US EV Deliveries Fell 78%
The regional picture is much weaker in the United States. Volkswagen delivered 14,900 BEVs there during the first nine months of 2026, down 78.4% from 68,700 a year earlier. In the third quarter alone, US BEV deliveries fell 86.4% to 5,100 vehicles.
Volkswagen linked the decline to a sharp contraction in the US BEV market following the expiration of government subsidy programmes, alongside continued pressure from import tariffs. This contrasts with Europe, where the group says stronger demand is being supported by high fuel prices and a broader range of lower-priced electric models.
China Remains Difficult Despite Q3 Improvement
Volkswagen’s broader business in China remains under pressure, with total deliveries down 30.2% in the first nine months to 1.38 million vehicles. BEV deliveries fell 42.5% to 48,900 over the same period.
However, the company said locally developed electric models are beginning to improve momentum. Electrified vehicle deliveries in China rose around 30% in the third quarter compared with the same period last year, with plug-in hybrids and range-extender vehicles showing particularly strong demand.

Škoda Is One of the Strongest EV Performers
Within the group, Škoda recorded some of the strongest BEV growth. Its all-electric deliveries rose 41.3% in the first nine months to 167,400 vehicles, while SEAT/CUPRA increased 13.5% and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles rose 23.4%. Volkswagen Passenger Cars, by contrast, saw BEV deliveries fall 26.3%, while Audi declined 12%.
The Škoda Elroq was Volkswagen Group’s best-selling BEV through September with 92,200 deliveries, followed by the Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5 at 81,900 and the Škoda Enyaq at 72,700.
EV Growth Is Becoming Increasingly Regional
Volkswagen delivered 6.01 million vehicles globally through September, down 9% year-on-year, showing that stronger EV demand in Europe is developing against a weaker overall sales backdrop. Growth in Europe and South America was offset by steep declines in China and softer performance in North America.
The key signal is the widening regional divide. Europe is moving towards a much larger electric share of Volkswagen’s future sales pipeline, while China and the US remain more difficult markets. The 40% BEV share of the European order book suggests electric models could become an increasingly important part of the group’s European delivery mix into 2027.
