The United Nations Global Compact has launched its Sustainable Procurement Implementation Framework, a global resource designed to help companies translate sustainability commitments into day-to-day procurement practice. The Framework was launched during the High-Level Forum on Sustainable Procurement, held alongside the UN General Assembly, and was developed by the UN Global Compact Coalition for Sustainable Procurement with contributions from participating companies and expert organisations.
The Framework is designed to complement rather than replace existing regulations and sustainability standards, focusing specifically on providing companies a practical pathway for operationalising sustainability throughout the procurement lifecycle, including assessing current maturity, establishing governance, translating sustainability priorities into sourcing decisions, engaging suppliers, and measuring performance. It is intended to be adaptable across industries, company sizes and geographies, applicable to both large multinational companies and smaller suppliers operating under different market and regulatory conditions.

UN Global Compact CEO and Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo said "our ambition is to make sustainable procurement the global norm and to give companies a practical pathway for turning that ambition into action," adding the organisation would work with governments, companies and business associations "to mobilize the private sector to adopt and implement this Framework." Concept 4 CEO Pascal Vieilvoye said the Framework "helps address that implementation gap by giving companies a practical approach they can apply within the procurement function."
The Coalition for Sustainable Procurement, established by the UN Global Compact in 2025, is working toward enabling 100,000 companies to integrate sustainability into procurement by 2030. The Framework is publicly available and intended for organisations of all sizes.
