Tata Power partners with Keppel to launch sustainable Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) in India, aiming to cut energy use by 40% and carbon emissions by 50%, supporting the nation's net-zero goals.
Tata Power Trading Company Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Power, has partnered with Singapore-based Keppel to launch sustainable Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) solutions in India. This collaboration comes as India’s demand for energy-efficient cooling systems surges, driven by the growth of IT parks, data centers, and urban infrastructure.
CaaS is a model that allows businesses to adopt cooling solutions without large upfront investments in equipment. Instead, users pay for the cooling service, helping them cut energy consumption and capital costs. The partnership will promote sustainability and support India's net-zero goals by integrating advanced cooling technologies into high-demand areas such as airports, data centers, and IT parks. The service is expected to reduce energy usage by 40% and carbon emissions by 50%.
The collaboration aligns with national initiatives like the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) and the Smart Cities Mission, aiming to make urban centers more energy-efficient and climate-friendly. By 2050, cooling is projected to account for 28% of India's energy consumption, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Addressing this growing demand, Tata Power’s extensive knowledge of India's energy landscape combined with Keppel's advanced cooling technology, which utilizes machine learning and artificial intelligence, will be pivotal.
Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, is well-positioned to bring expertise in energy management, power supply, and solar energy to this venture. Keppel, renowned for managing sustainable cooling systems across Asia, notably in Singapore, will provide the technical foundation. Together, these companies aim to contribute to India's sustainable energy future while helping businesses minimize costs and environmental impact.
This partnership signifies a major step toward achieving India’s net-zero targets, offering a scalable, energy-efficient solution to the country’s expanding cooling needs.
