Renewable energy developer Scatec ASA has reached commercial operations for the 60 MW Sidi Bouzid solar power plant in Tunisia, marking its first fully developed and operational project in the country. The commercial operations date is effective retroactively from 1 January 2026.

The project operates under a 30-year power purchase agreement with Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz, Tunisia’s national utility, providing long-term revenue stability.

Parallel Progress at Tozeur

 

Developed in parallel, the 60 MW Tozeur solar plant is progressing toward its own commercial operations date, expected in the first half of 2026. Both projects were awarded through a government-led competitive tender as part of Tunisia’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Together, the Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur facilities are projected to generate approximately 288 GWh of renewable electricity annually. The combined output is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 115,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, contributing to Tunisia’s decarbonisation objectives.

Strengthening North Africa Footprint

 

Sidi Bouzid represents a milestone in Scatec’s expansion across North Africa. The company holds a 51% ownership stake in both projects, with Aeolus SAS owning the remaining 49%.

Beyond development, Scatec will provide operations and maintenance as well as asset management services for the plants, reflecting its integrated project delivery model.

The commissioning signals growing momentum in Tunisia’s renewable energy sector, where international partnerships and competitive procurement mechanisms are accelerating the build-out of utility-scale solar capacity.
