RWE and Google Sign 15-Year PPA for 155MW Oklahoma Solar Project

RWE and Google Sign 15-Year PPA for 155MW Oklahoma Solar Project

RWE and Google have signed a 15-year power purchase agreement under which Google will purchase the total output of RWE's 155 megawatt Crooked Creek Solar project in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, marking RWE's first solar project in the state. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with commercial operation targeted for 2028. Once operational, the project will supply electricity to help power Google's operations in the Southwest Power Pool market, the regional grid covering much of the central United States.

Crooked Creek Solar is projected to generate approximately $24.3 million in local economic activity and $1.4 million in state and local tax revenue during construction, while employing up to 250 workers at peak construction. Once operational, the project is expected to generate an estimated $25 million total for county programs, local emergency medical services, the Broken Bow School District and regional technology education centres over its operating lifetime, extending its economic contribution well beyond the construction period into long-term community funding.

The project extends RWE's existing Oklahoma footprint, which already includes the 148 megawatt Boiling Springs wind project in Woodward County, alongside six additional power projects totalling 1.6 gigawatts currently in development across the state. RWE said it has provided more than $100,000 in donations, sponsorships and community partnerships in Oklahoma to date, positioning the Crooked Creek agreement as part of a broader, ongoing presence in the state rather than an isolated project.

RWE Americas Chief Commercial Officer Ingmar Ritzenhofen described the agreement as reflecting growing demand for affordable, reliable, domestically produced energy, framing the project as demonstrating how strategic partnerships can accelerate new energy development while creating jobs and generating local tax revenue. Google's Will Conkling said the agreement added critical new generation to the local grid, supporting a stronger and more affordable power supply for Oklahoma and the broader region as the company continues expanding its infrastructure.
