The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials has named PwC as its newest Global Accredited Partner, expanding the network of third-party firms supporting financial institutions that use the PCAF Standard to measure and disclose financed emissions, the greenhouse gas emissions associated with an institution's lending and investment activities rather than its own direct operations.
Under the partnership, PwC will work with banks, asset managers and other financial institutions on emissions baselining and calculation engine development, automation, data governance, AI-enabled data management, target-setting, disclosure readiness and independent assurance. PCAF's Accredited Partner Program is intended for consultancies, data providers and software firms supporting institutions committed to using its accounting methodology, with the stated aim of improving the consistency, comparability and quality of financed emissions disclosures across the sector.

The announcement frames the partnership against rising disclosure requirements, including the International Sustainability Standards Board's IFRS S2 standard and the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, both of which have expanded climate-related financial disclosure obligations for companies within their scope. For many financial institutions, financed emissions represent a significant share of their overall climate footprint, since these emissions sit within loan and investment portfolios rather than the institution's own facilities or operations, making portfolio-level emissions data increasingly relevant not only for external disclosure but for internal risk assessment and capital allocation decisions.

Lynne Baber, PwC's global sustainability leader, said the accreditation reinforced the firm's commitment to helping financial institutions measure and manage financed emissions in a credible, consistent and decision-useful manner. Bart van Lunteren, PCAF's accredited partner lead, said financial institutions are increasingly looking to strengthen the quality, consistency and transparency of emissions accounting across their portfolios, and that PwC's experience in measurement, data governance, reporting and assurance could support institutions implementing the PCAF Standard.
