Belgian renewable energy technology company 3E has secured a majority investment from software investor Hg to accelerate the development of its AI-powered renewable energy asset management platform, SynaptiQ, and expand internationally. Announced on 26 October 2026, the transaction will see Hg acquire its stake from ReNew and minority shareholders, while members of 3E's founding and management team retain ownership interests. Galvanize Climate Solutions will also participate as a minority co-investor, bringing additional expertise in energy and climate technology.
Founded more than 25 years ago, 3E provides software and technical advisory services to renewable energy developers, asset owners, operators and investors. Its SynaptiQ platform currently monitors more than 50 gigawatts (GW) of solar, wind and battery storage assets, helping customers track operational performance, identify underperforming equipment and optimise energy production and revenue. The platform serves hundreds of customers, including EDP, Renvolt and BayWa r.e. As renewable energy portfolios expand and electricity markets become more complex, operators increasingly require integrated asset, weather and market data to improve decision-making and manage financial performance.

Hg's investment will support the development of SynaptiQ as both a centralised operational data platform and an AI-powered analytics system. The company plans to strengthen integration between operational technology and information technology systems, combining physics-based digital models with artificial intelligence to improve asset performance forecasting, revenue optimisation and portfolio management. The investment will also support 3E's expansion into international markets, particularly the United States, alongside potential acquisitions to broaden its technology capabilities and geographic reach.
Stef Goossens, CEO of 3E, said, "We will focus on AI-based revenue analytics for assets in operation and strengthen our US presence to accelerate global growth." Representatives from Hg, including Aashima Jain, Thomas Martin and Chris Fielding, highlighted the value of 3E's extensive operational data and physics-based modelling capabilities in developing advanced AI solutions for renewable asset owners. Galvanize Climate Solutions representatives Saloni Multani and Mani Ghiasi also expressed support for the company's growth strategy, particularly its expansion in the US renewable energy market.
The investment reflects growing interest in digital technologies that improve the performance and commercial returns of renewable energy infrastructure. As solar, wind and battery storage portfolios become larger and more interconnected, advanced analytics can help operators manage grid constraints, changing electricity prices and asset performance. The acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to complete over the coming months. Financial terms of the overall transaction were not disclosed.
