Green Transition and AI Lead the Charge in WEF's Future of Jobs Report 2025

WEF's Future of Jobs Report 2025: AI, green roles, and reskilling dominate job trends, with 170M new roles by 2030. Employers prioritize upskilling and DEI amid rapid industry transformation.

The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Future of Jobs Report 2025 highlights how technological innovation, the green transition, and workforce reskilling will reshape global employment landscapes by 2030.

Key Drivers of Workforce Transformation

Technological Shifts:

  • AI, automation, and digital access will transform 60% of businesses by 2030.
  • Key roles in demand include AI Specialists, Big Data Analysts, and Cybersecurity Experts.
  • "Businesses need more than compliance; they need tools that empower resilience and innovation,” said James Cronan, Managing Director of ESG Reporting Intelligence.

Green Transition:

  • Renewable energy and sustainability roles are expected to grow rapidly, with 47% of employers planning climate-related transformations.
  • Emerging roles include Renewable Energy Engineers, Environmental Specialists, and experts in energy storage and electric vehicles.

Reskilling Imperatives:

  • By 2030, 39% of current skills will be outdated. Analytical thinking, adaptability, and flexibility will become essential, while manual dexterity and precision skills will decline.
  • 85% of employers are prioritizing workforce upskilling to address talent gaps and avoid layoffs.

Addressing Challenges and Opportunities

The report, based on data from 1,000 global employers and 14 million workers across 22 industries, highlights significant trends:

  • DEI Initiatives: 83% of businesses are implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.
  • Talent Gaps: Skill shortages remain a critical barrier, with 63% of employers citing this as a challenge.
  • Job Creation vs. Displacement: 170 million new jobs are expected by 2030, offset by the loss of 92 million roles, particularly in clerical and administrative sectors.

Future Outlook

As technological advancements, economic shifts, and climate priorities converge, balancing sustainability with innovation will be critical for workforce resilience and growth.
