EFRAG Unveils New ESRS Knowledge Hub to Simplify Sustainability Reporting Across Europe

The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) has taken another significant step in strengthening Europe’s sustainability reporting ecosystem with the launch of the ESRS Knowledge Hub, a new interactive digital platform designed to make the European Sustainability Reporting Standards easier to understand and apply. The platform reflects growing demand from companies, auditors, and sustainability teams for clearer guidance as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) comes fully into force. The hub marks EFRAG’s most comprehensive effort to consolidate reporting resources in one place, bringing together formal standards, implementation tools, and educational material in a format that allows practitioners to navigate the evolving regulatory environment more efficiently.

At the heart of the new platform is the integration of the complete suite of ESRS documentation. Users can explore the adopted 2023 standards, the simplified standards endorsed by the EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board in November 2025, and the VSME standard tailored for very small and medium-sized enterprises. These materials sit alongside practical implementation guidance, FAQs, and technical background papers. EFRAG has confirmed that once the simplified ESRS receives final approval from the European Commission, the hub will provide the same interactive experience for those standards as well. The seamless organisation of resources is intended to support preparers as they move from interpretation to day-to-day application.

Beyond ESRS content, the Knowledge Hub links users to relevant European Union legislation, enabling companies to trace the relationship between legal requirements and reporting expectations. The platform also directs users to global sustainability standards, providing a clearer understanding of where ESRS aligns with or diverges from international frameworks. Updates from EFRAG’s standard-setting bodies, including the Sustainability Reporting Board and the Sustainability Reporting Technical Expert Group, are integrated into the hub. This gives companies visibility into ongoing discussions that may shape future revisions, clarifications, or technical guidance. Historical documents and external references are included as well, offering continuity for professionals who need to track how concepts and requirements have developed over time.

EFRAG stated that the goal of the hub is to promote consistent implementation of the European standards, particularly as thousands of companies prepare their first ESRS disclosures. The organisation views the platform as a foundation for increasing transparency and reducing uncertainty in the reporting process, especially for entities new to CSRD obligations. Patrick de Cambourg, Chair of the EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board, emphasised that improved accessibility can play a transformative role. He noted that the Knowledge Hub “marks an important milestone for the coherence of the sustainability reporting landscape,” adding that EFRAG aims to provide a “reliable and user-oriented platform” to support the practical application of the standards.

The launch follows EFRAG’s October 2025 expansion of the VSME Digital Template and XBRL Taxonomy, which introduced multilingual translation capabilities. Users can now generate Inline XBRL reports in Spanish, Polish, Lithuanian and Portuguese, in addition to English. These upgrades respond to the needs of smaller companies and cross-border groups seeking to improve the accessibility of their sustainability disclosures. The introduction of the ESRS Knowledge Hub represents another step in EFRAG’s broader effort to create a more mature and interoperable sustainability reporting infrastructure across Europe. As regulatory expectations increase, the platform is positioned to become a primary reference point for preparers, auditors, investors and policymakers navigating the transition to standardised, decision-useful sustainability information.
