DuPont has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term and long-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, reinforcing its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2050. Announced on 29 October 2026, the validation covers new targets to reduce emissions from the company's operations, purchased energy, and wider supply chain. The commitments build on DuPont's previous science-based climate goals and establish a longer-term framework for reducing its environmental footprint.
Under its newly validated near-term targets, DuPont has committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 83% by 2035, compared with a 2019 baseline. The company also aims to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 63% by 2035, using 2020 as its baseline year. Its long-term targets require a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050 from the 2019 baseline, alongside a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from the 2020 baseline. These targets address both emissions directly associated with DuPont's operations and indirect emissions across its value chain.

The company has already reported substantial progress towards its climate commitments. In 2025, DuPont reduced its combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 76% compared with 2019, while Scope 3 emissions declined by 59% against the 2020 baseline. These reductions position the company closer to its new 2035 targets, although further progress will be required to meet its longer-term commitments. The latest validation represents DuPont's second set of near-term SBTi-approved targets, following the early achievement of its previous 2030 emissions reduction goal.
Scott Collick, DuPont's Chief Sustainability Officer, said, "SBTi validation reinforces the rigor we place on our climate commitments and the progress we’re making to reduce emissions across our operations and value chain." The company intends to advance its decarbonization strategy through sustainable innovation, operational improvements and collaboration with suppliers and customers. These efforts are also intended to help customers address emissions associated with products and materials throughout their own value chains.
The SBTi validation confirms that DuPont's emissions reduction targets meet the initiative's applicable science-based criteria, providing an externally assessed framework for its climate ambitions. However, target validation is distinct from independent verification of achieved emissions reductions or confirmation that future targets will be met. DuPont's progress towards its 2035 and 2050 commitments will depend on continued operational decarbonization, supply chain engagement and measurable reductions across all three emissions scopes.
