Datamaran has launched Applicability Assessment, a new AI-powered feature in its Regulatory Monitoring platform that helps businesses determine which regulations apply to their operations across jurisdictions. Announced on 26 October 2026, the tool enables legal, compliance, and sustainability teams to assess multiple corporate entities against existing and proposed mandatory regulations, reducing reliance on time-consuming manual reviews.
The feature evaluates individual entities against regulatory requirements and classifies each assessment as "Likely," "Unlikely," or "Uncertain," explaining the criteria behind each result. It automatically populates company information, including headquarters, operating locations, industry, revenue, and employee headcount. Users can group entities by region, business unit, or supplier category and assess them simultaneously. A central dashboard displays potential regulatory exposure, identifies missing information, and maintains an audit trail of assessment changes.

Datamaran's broader Regulatory Monitoring platform tracks mandatory regulations and voluntary initiatives across 99 non-financial topics and more than 190 countries. By incorporating proposed legislation, Applicability Assessment aims to help companies identify potential obligations before they enter into force. The company also reports that, in one client study, Datamaran completed research requiring about 28 hours of manual work in five minutes. This is a company-reported result from a specific assessment, not an independently established performance benchmark.
Marjella Lecourt-Alma, CEO and Co-founder of Datamaran, said, "Applicability Assessment provides that information quickly and reliably at the entity level at scale." Early users from global manufacturing businesses highlighted the tool's ability to explain regulatory decisions and identify missing data. Datamaran also plans to introduce an Expert Review capability that will allow subject-matter specialists to validate assessments and document their reasoning. This functionality is not yet generally available.
The launch reflects growing demand for technology that helps multinational businesses navigate changing environmental, social and governance requirements. By combining automated analysis with regulatory intelligence, Datamaran aims to speed up and improve the consistency of regulatory screening. However, its applicability assessments remain decision-support tools, not definitive legal advice, and organizations must still verify their obligations with qualified compliance or legal specialists.
