Digital infrastructure company Digital Reef has announced a partnership with Elevate Farms and environmental technology platform Xange.com to integrate vertical farming into its sustainability strategy as it expands data center infrastructure. The collaboration will establish a framework within the Reef Origin ecosystem to support agricultural projects that reduce resource consumption, while using digital measurement, reporting, and verification (dMRV) technology to track their environmental performance. The initiative aims to link digital infrastructure growth with investment in more resource-efficient food production systems.
Elevate Farms will contribute its proprietary closed-loop vertical farming technology, designed to grow crops indoors while using significantly less land and water than conventional agriculture. The company claims its systems can cut water use by more than 95% compared with standard agricultural methods, while potentially reducing emissions from food transportation and conventional supply chains. The technology uses controlled growing environments to improve resource efficiency and reduce exposure to challenges in agricultural production. However, the announcement does not provide independently verified lifecycle emissions comparisons or quantified savings from the specific partnership.

Xange.com has been appointed to provide environmental monitoring and verification services through the Reef Origin impact fund. Its digital MRV systems will track indicators including energy consumption, water use, carbon-related claims, and environmental assets associated with Elevate Farms' operations. The collaboration includes applying Internet of Things (IoT) technology at Elevate Farms' UAE facility, with support from several universities. The partners intend to use the collected information to improve transparency around resource efficiency and environmental performance, although the announcement does not identify completed independent audits or verified carbon credit issuances.
Piers Slater, CEO of Digital Reef, said the partnership would integrate resource-saving agricultural technology into the company's environmental strategy as it expands digital infrastructure. Amin Jadavji, CEO of Elevate Farms, added, "Our mission has always been to build a sustainable, scalable agricultural baseline using less land and water than ever thought imaginable". The initiative highlights an emerging approach to linking data center development with investments in resource-efficient agriculture. Its measurable environmental value will depend on verified operating data, credible comparisons with conventional farming, and transparent accounting of any environmental assets used to support data center sustainability claims.
