Why It Matters
This partnership aligns with Canada’s 30x30 goal—conserving 30% of land and water by 2030—and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Minister Steven Guilbeault:
"Protecting nature is one of the best ways to fight biodiversity loss and climate change."
Looking Ahead
With 15.8% of NWT already protected, this agreement enhances conservation efforts, supports Indigenous stewardship, and promotes sustainable economic opportunities.
