BNP Paribas Asset Management has launched its Global Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030, setting out how sustainability will be integrated across more than €1.7 trillion in assets under management. The strategy is organised around six pillars covering research, client solutions, ESG integration, stewardship, exclusions and internal governance, while four megatrends, environment, innovation, demographics and geopolitics, will guide how the asset manager identifies emerging risks and investment opportunities.
The five-year plan is intended to strengthen portfolio resilience and connect sustainability more closely with financial analysis across listed and alternative assets. BNPP AM said it will deepen work on climate risk, nature and just transition while expanding investment capabilities in areas including decarbonisation, natural capital, sustainable forestry, carbon solutions and biodiversity.
Updated ESG and Net-Zero Methodologies Are Due in 2027
One of the most concrete changes is a planned update to BNPP AM’s ESG and Net Zero methodologies in early 2027. The firm also intends to finalise an evolved net-zero approach before publishing updated Net Zero Asset Managers initiative targets at the end of 2026.
The strategy places greater emphasis on combining qualitative research with quantitative analysis to identify risks and long-term value drivers that may not be fully reflected in traditional financial analysis. BNPP AM also plans to further develop proprietary analytical tools and dashboards, including AI-enabled capabilities.

Alternatives and Natural Capital Will Play a Larger Role
BNPP AM plans to use its alternatives platform to expand investment solutions linked to climate, decarbonisation and the environment. The strategy specifically identifies sustainable forestry, carbon solutions, biodiversity outcomes and institutional resilience as areas where alternative assets can support client objectives.
The asset manager also intends to help clients respond to regulatory developments including SFDR 2.0. That will include policy engagement as well as implementation support as sustainability disclosure and fund classification requirements continue to evolve.
Stewardship Will Expand Into New Systemic Risks
The strategy commits BNPP AM to deeper coordination between investment and stewardship teams and across different asset classes. The company plans to continue developing its voting and engagement policies while participating in industry initiatives addressing climate mitigation, adaptation and other systemic risks.
Responsible and sustainable AI and hazardous chemicals are specifically identified as emerging stewardship areas. This widens the focus beyond traditional climate and governance issues and reflects the strategy’s broader emphasis on risks that could affect companies and portfolios over longer investment horizons.

Nature, Climate and Just Transition Remain Core Research Priorities
Forward-looking sustainability research will be aligned more closely with investment and client requirements, with nature, climate risk and just transition among the principal areas of focus. BNPP AM also plans to maintain exclusion standards as part of its risk-management framework and use engagement to encourage changes in issuer practices.
Internal governance will form the sixth pillar. The strategy calls for clearer roadmaps covering areas including net-zero operations and human rights, stronger entity- and fund-level reporting, and wider sustainability education across the organisation.
The Strategy Links Sustainability More Closely With Portfolio Resilience
The approach positions sustainability primarily as part of investment analysis and long-term risk management rather than as a separate investment theme. Its impact will depend on how the new methodologies, stewardship priorities and client solutions translate into portfolio decisions across different asset classes.
"Sustainability is a key enabler of our strategy and investment philosophy. It helps us understand risk, identify opportunity and build resilient portfolios for clients over the long term," said Jane Ambachtsheer, Chief Sustainability Officer at BNPP AM. "Looking to 2030, we will deepen our insight into systemic risks, strengthen stewardship and expand our capabilities across listed and alternative assets."
