Amazon and Transaera have signed a multi-year commercial agreement to integrate Transaera's cooling technology into Amazon's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, following a six-month field trial at an Amazon logistics facility. The agreement supports Amazon's Climate Pledge commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040 and represents one of the company's most concrete investments in next-generation HVAC efficiency to date. The deal also reinforces Amazon's preference for working directly with hardware innovators rather than relying solely on procurement of conventional efficiency upgrades.
Field Trial Results and Performance Validation
The pilot deployment of Transaera's rooftop-based cooling system demonstrated measurable energy savings compared with traditional HVAC systems while maintaining performance in hot and humid operating conditions. Results were validated through independent third-party analysis, providing the technical basis for moving from field trial to broader commercial deployment. The validation step is significant in the HVAC sector, where vendor performance claims are often difficult to compare across operating environments and load profiles.
Transaera's technology uses Metal Organic Frameworks to remove moisture from incoming air before cooling, rather than overcooling air to manage humidity as conventional systems do. The company states that this approach delivers expected energy savings of 40 percent compared with conventional packaged direct expansion systems. By separating the dehumidification and cooling functions at a material level, the design reduces the energy penalty associated with managing latent loads in hot and humid climates.

Transaera's first product, a Dedicated Outdoor Air System, has demonstrated more than double the current federal minimum efficiency standard for moisture removal. The systems function as heat pumps capable of cooling, heating and dehumidifying without relying on natural gas reheat, removing a fossil fuel input that has historically been used in commercial dehumidification. The architecture aligns with broader electrification trends in commercial building services, where heat pumps are increasingly displacing combustion-based systems.
Under the new agreement with Amazon, Transaera will dedicate a portion of its United States manufacturing output to support Amazon's HVAC deployment needs across its building network. The Boston-based company is building out a domestic supply chain for its systems and was founded by engineers and materials scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Securing a multi-year offtake commitment from a customer of Amazon's scale provides Transaera with the demand visibility needed to plan production capacity and supplier investment with greater confidence.
