Amazon has launched the Sustainability Deep Tech Accelerator, a global programme designed to accelerate the commercial adoption of technologies that reduce carbon emissions and improve material efficiency. Announced on 3 November 2026, the initiative brings together Amazon Devices, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon Private Brands, allowing companies to have their technologies evaluated for potential integration across multiple business divisions. Applications for the first cohort under the expanded programme will open in January 2027.
The accelerator targets innovations across three areas: low-carbon materials and advanced manufacturing, energy efficiency, and circularity. Technologies under consideration include lower-emission semiconductors, batteries, displays, printed circuit boards and packaging, alongside solutions that improve power and thermal management. The programme will also examine methods for recovering critical materials from retired cloud hardware and developing alternatives to conventional plastics, polymers and textiles.

The initiative expands Amazon's Devices Climate Tech Accelerator, launched in 2025 to connect emerging technology companies with its consumer electronics business. The earlier programme used a structured six-month evaluation process, with 28 companies participating across its first two cohorts. Selected companies worked with Amazon's technical teams to assess their technologies and develop integration proposals for senior leadership. The expanded programme extends this approach to AWS and Amazon Private Brands, providing opportunities to evaluate potential applications across different product and infrastructure requirements.
Maiken Moeller-Hansen, Director of Energy and Sustainability for Amazon Devices and Services, said, "We designed this program to accelerate a different path." She explained that participating companies would develop proposals reflecting Amazon's product requirements and manufacturing readiness before presenting them to leaders authorised to approve integration opportunities. The initiative aims to address the difficulties emerging technology developers face when moving from laboratory validation to large-scale commercial adoption.
Participation does not require companies to give Amazon an equity stake. Successful integration proposals may lead to licensing agreements, supply contracts, technology collaborations or investment arrangements, depending on commercial suitability. However, selection does not guarantee procurement or deployment. The programme supports Amazon's commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its global operations by 2040, with the first application window scheduled to open in January 2027.
