In a major move for sustainable infrastructure and digital growth, AirTrunk has announced the successful closure of a massive green loan worth $1.65 billion USD (S$2.25 billion) to fund the construction of its latest hyperscale data centre, AirTrunk SGP2, in Loyang, Singapore. This marks the largest-ever green loan for a data centre project in the country, and one of the largest in Asia.
A Strategic Win for Singapore’s Green Finance Ambitions
The landmark financing aligns with Singapore’s growing push to lead as a global green finance hub, a national priority championed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The transaction reinforces Singapore’s position as a preferred destination for climate-conscious capital and digital infrastructure investment.
AirTrunk’s loan structure follows both its own Green Financing Framework and the Singapore-Asia Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, showcasing a robust commitment to responsible development. In a further step toward inclusive sustainability, all margin-related incentives from the loan will be redirected to AirTrunk’s social impact fund, which supports community-driven programs across the region.

Flexible Structure Encourages Long-term Sustainability Goals
The funding model has been carefully designed to allow for adaptability as sustainability goals evolve. Starting as a green loan, it has the option to transition into a sustainability-linked loan in the future. This feature not only demonstrates confidence in AirTrunk’s environmental strategy but also incentivizes continued progress in emissions reductions, energy efficiency, and social inclusion.
Crédit Agricole CIB, DBS Bank, and ING Bank jointly served as Global Coordinators and Sustainability Structuring Agents. They were joined by 23 additional local and international financial institutions, including major players such as MUFG Bank, Natixis, Standard Chartered, and United Overseas Bank, acting as Mandated Lead Arrangers and Bookrunners.
Industry Leaders Applaud AirTrunk’s Commitment
Robin Khuda, founder and CEO of AirTrunk, stated that this financing milestone solidifies the company’s role in sustainable digital infrastructure and contributes to Singapore’s broader green finance momentum. He highlighted the dual mission of scaling hyperscale capabilities while delivering long-term community benefits through targeted social investments.
Executives from partner banks also acknowledged the significance of the project. Jasmine Zhang of Crédit Agricole CIB called the initiative a new standard for responsible infrastructure in Asia, noting its innovative structure and flexibility for long-term impact. DBS Bank’s Amit Sinha emphasized the growing role of the data centre sector in Asia’s digital economy and the importance of financing such large-scale, sustainable facilities. ING Bank’s Krishna Suryanarayanan added that this financing milestone strengthens AirTrunk’s reputation as a global sustainability leader among data infrastructure providers.
AirTrunk SGP2: A Blueprint for Sustainable Data Centres
The upcoming SGP2 data centre is designed to deliver over 70 megawatts of computing capacity, addressing the rising demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence across Southeast Asia. With sustainability at its core, the facility aims to achieve Singapore’s highest environmental certification, the BCA GreenMark Platinum standard.
Operational efficiency is another key focus, with the data centre targeting an exceptional Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.20. The project also plans to reduce embodied carbon by incorporating eco-friendly materials such as green concrete and steel, which further supports its low-carbon design ambitions.

A Turning Point for Green Digital Infrastructure in Asia
AirTrunk’s SGP2 project and the green financing behind it symbolize more than just a new data centre. It reflects a strategic convergence of climate finance, digital transformation, and inclusive growth. By committing to green standards and aligning financing mechanisms with social impact, AirTrunk is laying down a model for how technology infrastructure can be built with both performance and planet in mind.
As Singapore advances toward becoming a sustainability leader in both finance and technology, this project is expected to influence similar developments across the Asia Pacific region. The AirTrunk SGP2 facility could well become the blueprint for future-ready, responsible data centre infrastructure.
