Event Details

The UN Climate Change Conference 2026, also known as COP 31, will take place from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye. Hosted by the Government of Türkiye, the conference will bring together Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, negotiators, ministers, observers, and climate stakeholders to advance global climate cooperation, strengthen implementation, and support higher ambition under the international climate process. The official UNFCCC page confirms that COP 31 will be held at the Antalya EXPO Center and will include COP 31, CMP 21, and CMA 8, covering the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol, and Paris Agreement processes.

Purpose and Objectives

The primary purpose of COP 31 is to support international climate negotiations and accelerate the global response to climate change. According to UNFCCC, the incoming COP 31 Presidency and the COP 30 Presidency are working together ahead of the conference to foster an open, transparent, and inclusive process through regular engagement with Parties and observers. The conference is expected to build on previous climate outcomes while focusing on ambition, implementation, and practical cooperation across governments and stakeholders.

Key Activities

COP 31 will include formal negotiations, high-level climate discussions, mandated meetings, observer engagement, and stakeholder participation across the UNFCCC process. The official participant information confirms that the meeting comprises the 31st session of the Conference of the Parties, the 21st session of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, and the 8th session of the Parties to the Paris Agreement. In the lead-up to Antalya, the presidencies are also organizing consultations, informal discussions, and engagement with ministers, Heads of Delegation, negotiators, observers, and stakeholders to prepare the groundwork for the conference.

Significance

COP 31 is significant because it will serve as one of the main global platforms for shaping climate policy, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and advancing implementation under the Paris Agreement. The Antalya conference will bring together national governments and non-party stakeholders at a time when countries are under pressure to turn climate commitments into measurable progress. Its positioning within the UNFCCC process makes it relevant for climate finance, mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer, just transition, and broader climate governance discussions.

Expected Outcomes

The event is expected to support stronger coordination between governments, negotiating groups, observers, and climate stakeholders while helping define the next phase of international climate action. Participants are likely to leave with clearer policy direction, stronger engagement around implementation priorities, and improved alignment on the climate measures needed to advance the global response to climate change. Based on the official UNFCCC positioning, COP 31 is intended to encourage unity, shared purpose, and ambitious outcomes that strengthen implementation and climate ambition.
