Event Details

Asia Climate Summit 2026 will take place from 7 to 9 July 2026 in Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Organized by IETA and co-hosted by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, the summit will bring Asia’s leading carbon market and climate policy forum to Hong Kong for the first time. The event will convene senior leaders from business, government, finance, and civil society to shape the next phase of carbon markets across Asia.

Purpose and Objectives

The primary purpose of Asia Climate Summit 2026 is to advance market-based climate solutions that can support credible climate action, investment, and sustainable growth across Asia. The summit is designed to combine regional insights with global perspectives, helping participants understand how carbon markets, climate policy, regulation, finance, and market infrastructure are evolving. Its objective is to support stronger regional cooperation and practical implementation around carbon pricing, voluntary markets, Article 6, CBAM, CORSIA, and digital infrastructure for transparent and effective climate markets.

Key Activities

Asia Climate Summit 2026 will include high-level plenaries, keynote sessions, breakout discussions, workshops, side events, expert-led sessions, social events, and networking breaks. The agenda includes registration and welcome sessions, IETA member meetings, APAC working group discussions, and carbon market dialogues involving organizations such as the International Carbon Action Partnership, Asia Society Policy Institute, and Environmental Defense Fund. Key themes include Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms, aviation decarbonisation through CORSIA, Article 6 market integration, carbon pricing and taxes, voluntary carbon markets, and digital MRV, verification, and data infrastructure.

Significance

Asia Climate Summit 2026 is significant because it comes at a pivotal time for carbon markets in Asia, as governments, investors, and companies look for credible mechanisms to price emissions, unlock climate finance, and support cross-border cooperation. Hosting the summit in Hong Kong strengthens its relevance as a regional finance and market infrastructure hub, especially with FSTB, SFC, and HKEX involved as co-hosts. The event is particularly relevant for policymakers, carbon market participants, financial institutions, project developers, corporates, exchanges, technology providers, and sustainability professionals working on climate policy, carbon pricing, and high-integrity market systems.

Expected Outcomes

The event is expected to support stronger alignment across Asia’s carbon market ecosystem while helping participants understand emerging regulations, market mechanisms, investment opportunities, and infrastructure needs. Attendees are likely to leave with practical insight into how carbon markets can scale credibly across the region, stronger connections with policymakers and market leaders, and a clearer view of how Asia can shape global climate and carbon market pathways. Based on the official positioning, Asia Climate Summit 2026 is designed to move carbon market dialogue toward implementation, investment, and measurable climate impact.
