CSRD reporting software is the system a company uses to produce the sustainability statement required by the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). It runs the double materiality assessment and collects the data the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) ask for. It also keeps an audit trail for the assurance provider and turns the result into a report that can be filed. The ten platforms below cover the main approaches, from finance-led disclosure suites to sustainability specialists and platforms built around operational data.
The rules were reset in 2026. The Omnibus I directive (Directive (EU) 2026/470) was published in the EU’s Official Journal on 26 February 2026. It limits the CSRD to companies with more than 1,000 employees and more than €450 million in net turnover. Non-EU groups are covered if they make €450 million in the EU and have an EU subsidiary or branch above €200 million. Newly covered EU companies report on financial year 2027, with the first reports due in 2028.
The standards changed too. On 3 July 2026 the European Commission adopted revised ESRS that cut mandatory datapoints by more than 60%. They apply to financial years starting on or after 1 January 2027, and companies can use them early for 2026. Limited assurance is still required, and the rules for digital tagging in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) are being finalised. Smaller suppliers are now protected by a value chain cap linked to the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), known as the VSME.
This guide is for CFOs, financial controllers, heads of sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) leads, and the IT and procurement teams running a software selection. It compares ten platforms on the features that matter most for CSRD reporting, notes where each falls short and helps narrow the field to a practical shortlist.

How We Chose These CSRD Reporting Platforms
We started from platforms with documented CSRD or ESRS reporting capabilities, then judged each against six criteria drawn from what the CSRD and the revised ESRS demand in practice. We reviewed vendor documentation, customer case studies, analyst coverage and company news published up to October 2026. This is an editorial comparison, not a hands-on test, so use our notes to plan your own demos.
| ESRS coverage | a datapoint library for the ESRS, with the revised 2026 standards live or a clear date for them. |
| Double materiality | a structured workflow for impacts, risks and opportunities (IROs) that records the reasoning an auditor will ask to see, rather than only storing the result. |
| Assurance readiness | audit trails, approval workflows, evidence attached to each datapoint and access for the assurance provider. |
| Reporting output | export of a finished sustainability statement and, ideally, XBRL tagging, the machine-readable format the EU will require. |
| Data collection | connectors to enterprise resource planning (ERP), HR and energy systems, plus supplier requests that respect the VSME cap. |
| Company fit and stability | a clear target customer and a stable position in a consolidating market. Position Green bought three vendors in 2025, Novisto bought Minimum in 2026 and osapiens bought the Nasdaq Metrio platform in August 2026. |
We left out standalone carbon calculators and materiality-only tools. Where a vendor delivers part of the CSRD work through consultants, partners or separately sold modules, the review says so. Industry lists show representative sectors, not confirmed CSRD deployments in each. Founding dates refer to the company, or its parent where stated, not the launch of its CSRD product. Software supports compliance but does not replace assurance.
For platforms that manage sustainability performance beyond reporting, see our guide to the top sustainability management software platforms.
Top 10 CSRD Reporting Software Platforms
The list moves from enterprise suites tied to financial and ERP systems, through platforms built around operational and industrial data, to sustainability specialists. The order groups similar platforms together; it is not a score.
1. Workiva
Finance teams that already file annual reports or US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reports through Workiva can produce the CSRD sustainability statement without leaving the platform. The US-listed company links sustainability figures to the data, controls and audit trail behind the financial statements, and its CSRD product is aimed squarely at large listed groups.
Key Features
| XBRL tagging for ESRS, EU Taxonomy and ESEF | Workiva tags the sustainability statement alongside the annual report under the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF), without a hand-off to a filing agent. |
| Linked data | Change a figure at source and every table and narrative that uses it updates. |
| Audit and assurance hub | Evidence, change history and control testing are stored together for the assurance provider. |
| Double materiality and ESRS gap assessment | Impacts are rated and decisions documented inside the platform. The gap assessment then points each missing disclosure to the metric that should fill it. |
| Revised ESRS transition | The Sustainability Explorer shows the 2023 and revised ESRS side by side, and the ESRS Transition Accelerator generates templates for the metrics that need to change. |
Industries Served
- Banking and insurance
- Asset management
- Energy and utilities
- Telecommunications
- Pharmaceuticals and life sciences
- Airlines and transport
Pros
- Finance can apply its existing disclosure controls and review cycles to the sustainability statement instead of building new ones.
- More than 60 pre-built connectors to ERP, HR and environment, health and safety (EHS) systems, plus Workiva Carbon for greenhouse gas (GHG) data.
- Workiva AI drafts ESRS-aligned narrative from approved data, shortening the writing phase.
- Named CSRD customers include Nokia, Air France-KLM and Bavarian Nordic, according to Workiva.
Cons
- Double materiality templates and some CSRD content sit in a separate CSRD add-on, and accelerators are sold through the Workiva Marketplace; confirm what your licence includes.
- Pricing is set by solution, entity and user, so costs climb as modules are added.
- The carbon module is younger than those of dedicated carbon accounting platforms.
Best For
Choose Workiva if your sustainability statement will sit inside an integrated annual report and must be tagged and assured on the same timetable as the accounts. A company with no other reporting in Workiva will pay for far more platform than its CSRD work needs.
2. SAP Sustainability Control Tower
In groups where finance, HR and operations already run on SAP S/4HANA, SAP Sustainability Control Tower pulls ESG metrics from those systems rather than from spreadsheets. Launched in 2021, it maps the data to predefined models for the CSRD, the EU Taxonomy and other frameworks, keeping sustainability figures under the controls applied to ERP data.
Key Features
| Predefined data models | SAP provides structures for the CSRD (ESRS and EU Taxonomy), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) climate disclosures (IFRS S2) and other frameworks, and companies can add their own metrics. |
| Native SAP data | Finance, HR, real estate and operations data already held in SAP feeds the metrics directly. |
| Materiality-based scoping | Results of the double materiality assessment decide which metrics, organisational levels and data sources are in scope. |
| Validation and period close | Completeness checks and data release steps mirror the discipline of a financial close. |
| AI-generated draft reports | SAP report templates can be filled automatically from the ESG data available to produce a first draft. |
Industries Served
- Manufacturing
- Chemicals
- Automotive
- Consumer products
- Retail
- Utilities
Pros
- Reuses the master data, organisational structures and controls of an existing SAP landscape.
- Sustainability and financial figures start from the same source records, which cuts reconciliation work.
- Calculates GHG emissions for all scopes using spend-based and activity-based methods, allocated across finance, HR and operational structures.
- Part of SAP’s wider sustainability portfolio, including Sustainability Footprint Management for product-level carbon data and a release on SAP Business Data Cloud.
Cons
- No built-in double materiality assessment; SAP states that the results must come from Excel or a partner tool.
- Value depends on how much of the business runs on SAP, and non-SAP sources need integration work.
- Narrative writing and XBRL tagging are not its strengths, so many companies add a disclosure tool.
Best For
Best when most of your operational and financial data already lives in SAP S/4HANA and IT wants sustainability reporting inside that landscape. If a large share of your data sits in non-SAP systems, the integration effort may outweigh the benefit.
3. IBM Envizi
Founded in Sydney in 2004 and bought by IBM in 2022, Envizi started as an energy and environmental data platform and added a CSRD module in 2024. Most of its depth lies in capturing operational data from meters, sites, assets and suppliers, so it appeals to multi-site and asset-heavy enterprises with complicated group structures.
Key Features
| Automated data capture | Envizi pulls data from ERP systems, Internet of Things (IoT) and metering platforms, utility providers, spreadsheets and supplier portals. |
| Managed ESRS framework | The ESRS sit in a library of more than 1,000 questions from major frameworks. Answers can be reused from earlier years and across frameworks, with workflows and approvals around them. |
| Audit trails and data health checks | Every change is logged, and automated checks test data for completeness, accuracy and timeliness before it reaches a report. |
| GHG Protocol-based calculation engine | Scope 1 and 2 calculations follow the GHG Protocol; Scope 3, supplier engagement and financed emissions are separate modules. |
| Organisational modelling | Regions, sites, assets, product lines and joint ventures are modelled individually and rolled up to match the reporting boundary. |
Industries Served
- Real estate
- Financial services
- Retail
- Manufacturing
- Transport and logistics
- Energy and utilities
Pros
- Proven on CSRD: Ikano Group, with six businesses on three continents, tracks 15,685 data types for CSRD in Envizi and gives auditors direct access, according to IBM.
- Named a Leader in the Verdantix Green Quadrant for enterprise carbon management (2026), according to IBM.
- Utility bill and interval meter analytics give detailed energy, water and emissions data for the ESRS climate and resource standards.
Cons
- Reports export to Word or PDF, so tagging and final report production usually need a separate disclosure tool.
- IBM’s product pages do not list a materiality module; check how you will run and document the assessment.
- The suite is modular, so reporting, emissions, survey and supplier modules need careful scoping.
Best For
Worth shortlisting when the hard part of CSRD is gathering environmental data from many sites, meters and subsidiaries. If you need a tagged, publication-ready statement from the same tool, plan to pair it with disclosure software.
4. CCH Tagetik ESG & Sustainability (Wolters Kluwer)
Where the group finance team owns the sustainability statement, CCH Tagetik keeps CSRD data inside the consolidation system the team already uses. Wolters Kluwer’s corporate performance management platform already handles financial close, planning and disclosure for multinational groups, and its ESG & Sustainability solution adds ESRS content and materiality tools to that engine.
Key Features
| Pre-loaded ESRS indicator library | ESRS indicators and their calculations are built in, reducing set-up time. |
| Double materiality toolkit | Stakeholder surveys, a pre-built ESRS topic list and a materiality matrix are part of the solution. |
| Consolidation logic for ESG data | Sustainability metrics follow the entity structure and approval steps used for the group accounts. |
| Automatic audit trail | The system tracks the history of source data and generates audit reports to support limited assurance. |
| Annual report integration | ESG disclosures are inserted into the annual report document. The wider platform already produces iXBRL-tagged filings for European financial reporting. |
Industries Served
- Banking
- Insurance
- Utilities and energy
- Manufacturing
- Retail and consumer goods
Pros
- Reporting boundaries and entity scope match the financial statements, because both run through the same consolidation.
- Connects to more than 100 data sources, according to Wolters Kluwer.
- Covers adjacent EU rules, including the EU Taxonomy and a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) module added in 2025.
- Customers named by Wolters Kluwer include Generali, UniCredit and A2A.
Cons
- Implementation effort is heavy, as with most performance management software.
- Narrative document production is less polished than Workiva’s.
- Built around finance teams; sustainability teams without finance support may find it complex.
Best For
A good fit if your group already consolidates in CCH Tagetik, or if the CFO wants sustainability data to pass through the same close process as the accounts. Sustainability teams working without finance support will find it heavy going.
5. Sphera
Owned by Blackstone since 2021, Chicago-based Sphera sells EHS, product stewardship and sustainability software alongside its own emissions data and a large consulting team. For the CSRD, SpheraCloud Corporate Sustainability prepares the framework disclosures while consultants usually run the double materiality and ESRS readiness work, a split that works for industrial companies.
Key Features
| Managed disclosure content | CSRD, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), CDP, ISSB and EU Taxonomy requirements are laid out as structured data-entry tables. Sphera’s experts push regulatory updates into the tool. |
| Cross-framework reuse | Values entered for one framework can populate matching fields in others. |
| Inline XBRL output | According to Sphera, reports can be prepared in inline XBRL, the machine-readable format the EU will require, in a few clicks. |
| Verified emission factors and life cycle data | Sphera uses DEKRA-verified, mass-based emission factors and more than 20,000 life cycle assessment (LCA) datasets for Scope 3 and product-level figures. |
| Data lineage plus consulting | Reviewers can follow each figure from raw data through the calculation steps, and more than 200 in-house experts offer ESRS-aligned double materiality and gap reviews. |
Industries Served
- Chemicals
- Energy
- Manufacturing
- Food and consumer goods
- Building products
- Engineering services
Pros
- Companies short on ESRS expertise can buy software, emissions data and consulting from the same vendor.
- Its LCA database lets product-heavy manufacturers report product-level impacts without a separate LCA tool.
- Named a Leader in the Verdantix Green Quadrant for ESG and sustainability software in 2025, its second time, according to Sphera.
- Sustainability data sits next to EHS, product stewardship and supply chain risk modules on SpheraCloud.
Cons
- Double materiality is offered as a consulting service rather than a software tool, according to Sphera’s website.
- Its product pages refer to the CSRD but do not say whether content for the revised 2026 ESRS is live; confirm the version in a demo.
- Disclosure content, LCA content and consulting are listed as separate offerings and pricing is quote-based, so confirm what your contract covers.
Best For
Choose Sphera if your emissions and product data are complex and you would rather have consultants run the materiality work than staff it internally. Teams that want a self-service, ESRS-native tool should look elsewhere.
6. Position Green
Position Green’s CSRD platform was designed by its own ESRS advisers, and in-house experts are on hand to review clients’ draft reports. The Malmö-based company, founded in 2015, added EU Taxonomy reporting by buying Greenomy in 2025. Its core audience is European mid-market and large companies preparing their first or second sustainability statement.
Key Features
| Original and revised ESRS templates | Companies reporting on 2026 can work in either version and switch without rebuilding their set-up. |
| Connected double materiality | Material matters map automatically to the disclosures they trigger, narrowing what needs to be collected. |
| Statement Studio | Contributions from across the organisation are assembled into a collaborative, exportable sustainability statement, with figures traceable to source. |
| AI pre-fill with traceability | Users upload documents to pre-fill ESRS data, check the source of each suggestion and approve it through a workflow. |
| In-house advisory | ESRS experts review draft reports and help with integrations. |
Industries Served
- Real estate
- Energy
- Food and beverage
- Manufacturing
- Shipping
- Retail and e-commerce
Pros
- Advisers and software come from the same company, so methodology questions do not bounce between a consultant and a vendor.
- Covers ESRS, EU Taxonomy, VSME, Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and GRI reporting.
- More than 1,000 customers and 10 offices across eight European countries, according to the company.
- Audit trails and approval workflows are built on financial auditing principles.
Cons
- Three acquisitions in 2025 (Morescope, Greenomy and Factlines) bring integration risk.
- Carbon management is documented as a separate product in its help centre; check how emissions data reaches the climate disclosures.
- Its focus is Europe, and it has scaled back US activity, according to market reports.
- XBRL tagging is not described on its product pages; confirm the filing workflow in a demo.
Best For
Makes most sense for teams new to the ESRS that want software and expert review from the same supplier; confirm whether advisory hours are part of the subscription or scoped separately. US-centred groups will find its presence there limited.
7. Novisto
Novisto treats ESG reporting as a data governance problem: who owns each metric, who approved it and which frameworks reuse it. Founded in Montreal in 2019, it added an integrated double materiality tool in August 2026 and carbon accounting through its purchase of the UK platform Minimum. Its main market is large companies reporting under several frameworks.
Key Features
| Simplified ESRS live | The revised metric set is already in the platform, mapped back to data collected under the 2023 ESRS. |
| Novisto Materiality | Launched in August 2026, it uses GIST Impact’s methodology to score each topic and IRO for impact and financial materiality. Stakeholder surveys run in the platform, and the rationale for each decision is recorded. |
| XBRL tag mapping | Tags are mapped automatically to Novisto datapoints for electronic filing. |
| Cross-framework mapping | ESRS datapoints are cross-referenced with GRI, IFRS, CDP, the EU Taxonomy and SFDR, cutting duplicate collection. |
| Controls and evidence | Role-based approvals, internal controls and change history sit alongside the evidence attached to each metric. |
Industries Served
- Banking and insurance
- Health care and pharmaceuticals
- Retail
- Manufacturing
- Food and beverage
- Oil, gas and mining
Pros
- Audit trails detailed enough for assurance, with a lighter workflow than enterprise suites.
- Material topics link directly to the datapoints they trigger, now that materiality and reporting share a platform.
- XBRL tag mapping is included, which many specialist tools leave out.
- Named customers include Sanofi, Moderna and Emirates, according to Novisto.
Cons
- Novisto Materiality launched in August 2026, so ask for references from companies that have completed an assessment in it.
- Carbon features from Minimum are being integrated during 2026; check what is available in the main platform today.
- A venture-backed vendor in a consolidating market, so review its roadmap and financial position.
Best For
Best when several teams and frameworks draw on the same ESG metrics and you need clear ownership and approval for each one. A company with a single, simple reporting need will not use most of it.
8. Watershed
For companies that already run a serious carbon programme, Watershed puts CSRD reporting on top of the emissions data their teams already manage. The San Francisco company, founded in 2019, is best known for enterprise carbon accounting. Its CSRD product, launched in April 2024, adds a report builder, in-product ESRS guidance and tools built for limited assurance.
Key Features
| Materiality mapped to ESRS | Watershed guides the double materiality assessment and maps the results to ESRS requirements, marking each disclosure as material or not. |
| Automated ESRS metrics and checks | ESRS metrics are calculated from data already in the platform, and more than 150 automated checks flag gaps and errors. |
| Lineage for every metric | Each figure traces back to its source data, calculation and approver. External auditors can review the evidence and calculation chains themselves. |
| AI-drafted narrative | AI drafts qualitative responses from company data, regulatory guidance and peer examples, and shows its sources. |
| Entity and ownership modelling | Owners are assigned by entity, team and topic, and the group structure can be modelled for subsidiary-level reporting. |
Industries Served
- Technology
- Financial services
- Food and consumer goods
- Industrial manufacturing
- Facility services
- Retail
Pros
- ESRS E1 climate figures are drawn from the carbon inventory itself rather than copied into a separate reporting tool.
- Built for limited assurance, with structured exports for assurance review and partnerships with EY, KPMG and Deloitte, according to Watershed.
- Smiths Group, with more than 15,000 employees in 50 countries, uses Watershed for CSRD and says it can split responsibility cleanly across teams.
- The same data maps to CDP, ISSB and California’s climate disclosure laws, which helps groups reporting in the EU and US.
Cons
- XBRL tagging is not described on its CSRD pages; plan how the statement will be tagged.
- Its roots are in climate, so test the social and governance disclosures (ESRS S1 to G1) carefully in a demo.
- Companies that already run another carbon system may duplicate work if they adopt the wider platform.
Best For
Pick Watershed when decarbonisation work and CSRD reporting sit with the same team and you report in both the EU and US. If you plan to keep an existing carbon system, much of its value is lost.
9. osapiens HUB
A manufacturer facing the CSRD, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) at once can end up asking suppliers for the same data repeatedly. The osapiens HUB, built by a Mannheim company founded in 2018 and valued above USD 1 billion in January 2026, collects that data once and reuses it.
Key Features
| IRO library and materiality matrix | A pre-mapped, ESRS-aligned library of impacts, risks and opportunities feeds a materiality matrix and dashboards that update as inputs change. |
| Reporting Cockpit | Data is collected and validated once, then reused for the CSRD, VSME, GRI, ISSB and UK Sustainability Reporting Standards. It links to ERP and energy systems through an application programming interface (API). |
| Disclosure Management | Validated data flows into a branded, filing-ready report with certified, automated XBRL tagging, and the report refreshes when the data changes. |
| Data lineage and version control | osapiens describes both as built for limited assurance from day one. |
| Shared data across regulations | Supplier and company data is reused across CSRD, CSDDD, EU Taxonomy and CBAM work. An AI-assisted EU Taxonomy module calculates eligibility, alignment and the related turnover, CapEx and OpEx figures. |
Industries Served
- Automotive suppliers
- Manufacturing
- Retail
- Food and beverages
- Consumer goods
- Outdoor and sporting goods
Pros
- Broad regulatory coverage reduces the number of tools for companies affected by CSRD, EUDR, CBAM and CSDDD.
- More than 2,500 companies use the platform, according to osapiens (August 2026).
- Certified XBRL tagging is included, and the company has alliances with audit firms, including KPMG Spain (March 2026).
- North American reach expanded with the purchase of the Nasdaq Metrio platform in August 2026.
Cons
- Materiality, Reporting Cockpit and Disclosure Management are separate solutions, so agree the module scope before signing.
- With more than 25 solutions, the platform may be more than a company with a CSRD-only need wants to buy and maintain.
- In October 2026 its CSRD pages did not yet describe support for the revised ESRS; ask for the release timeline.
Best For
Consider osapiens HUB if your sustainability team also handles EUDR, CBAM or due diligence requests and wants supplier data collected only once. Service businesses with a CSRD-only obligation would be paying for modules they do not need.
10. Sweep
Sweep is particularly focused on coordinating data collection across subsidiaries, countries and large contributor networks. Founded in 2020 and run from Paris and London, it pairs a pre-configured ESRS indicator library and double materiality tools with collection campaigns, validation workflows and a dedicated auditor interface. Its named customers, including L’Oréal and Swisscom, are large European groups.
Key Features
| ESRS library with change tracking | For each datapoint, Sweep shows the requirement under the simplified ESRS and what changed from the previous version. |
| Double materiality and IRO tools | Financial and impact thresholds can be adjusted, and a free CSRD Materiality Builder offers a first pass. |
| Collection campaigns | Questionnaires, surveys, file imports, assigned owners and reminders run as campaigns, with progress tracked by entity. |
| Evidence, review and auditor access | Audit trails run from raw input to filed disclosure. Every figure and narrative is version-controlled, and auditors work through their own interface. |
| Cross-framework mapping and AI drafting | Collected data is mapped to the CSRD, ISSB, GRI, CDP and several US and UK rules, and AI drafts disclosure responses from live data. |
Industries Served
- Consumer goods
- Retail
- Media and telecoms
- Energy and utilities
- Manufacturing
- Healthcare
Pros
- Built for the CSRD from the start rather than adapted from a carbon calculator.
- Named a Leader in the 2026 IDC MarketScape for carbon accounting and management and the 2026 Verdantix Green Quadrant for enterprise carbon management, according to Sweep.
- Roles, validation steps and comments are part of each collection campaign, which keeps large contributor networks in order.
- Other customers include Orange, SSE and Airbus, according to Sweep.
Cons
- Its CSRD pages describe machine-readable tagging for the European Single Access Point (ESAP) but not full XBRL output for the annual report; confirm how tagging will work for your filing route.
- Positioned for large organisations, so smaller companies may pay for depth they do not use.
- Its first US office opened in 2025, so US-headquartered groups should check local support.
Best For
Shortlist Sweep if your biggest CSRD risk is coordinating many contributors across entities and countries rather than calculating any single figure. If tagging must happen inside your annual report software, budget for a separate disclosure tool.
How to Choose the Right CSRD Reporting Software
Start from your reporting obligation, then match the software to who owns the report and where the data lives. The five checks below separate platforms that look alike in a sales demo. Ask each vendor to show every point in its own product, using a sample of your data rather than slides.
Confirm Your Scope and ESRS Version
Establish which entities are covered, whether you will report on a consolidated basis and which financial year applies; the 2026 changes make older scope assumptions unreliable. Then ask each vendor which ESRS version it supports today, how 2023 data maps to the revised set, and how earlier reports stay accessible when requirements change.
If you will ask suppliers for data, check that questionnaires can be limited to the VSME set for suppliers with fewer than 1,000 employees, as the value chain cap now requires.
Separate Running a Materiality Assessment From Storing It
Some platforms run the double materiality assessment, others document one done elsewhere, and some only import the results. SAP, for example, takes results from Excel or a partner tool, while Sphera delivers the assessment through consultants. Ask to see stakeholder inputs, scoring, thresholds, the rationale for each decision and the link from material topics to the disclosures they trigger. The revised ESRS also allow a top-down approach that starts from the business model; check the tool supports it.
Test the Evidence Trail With a Real Disclosure
Limited assurance remains mandatory, and the Commission must adopt EU limited assurance standards by 1 July 2027. Pick one quantitative metric and one narrative disclosure from your own report and ask the vendor to trace each from source, through calculations and approvals, to the final text. Check who changed what, which evidence supports it and whether your auditor can get read-only access.
Check the Path to a Tagged, Published Statement
Do not stop the demo at a dashboard. The CSRD requires XBRL tagging once the EU’s tagging rules are adopted, and the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) published the draft taxonomy for the revised ESRS on 17 September 2026. Workiva, Sphera and osapiens describe tagging in their own products, while others export to Word or PDF. Name who owns each step between approved data and the published report.
Compare Total Cost, Not Just the Licence
Ask for comparable proposals that separate software, add-on modules, implementation, integrations, advisory work and support. Several vendors on this list sell materiality, disclosure or content modules separately, so the headline price rarely tells the whole story. Include the effort your own team will need, and agree data export and exit terms before you sign.
Which CSRD Reporting Software Is Right for Your Needs?
| Business Type | Recommended Type of Provider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Smaller company outside mandatory CSRD scope | A right-sized VSME tool; Position Green and osapiens both support VSME reporting | Avoids buying a full compliance suite before the obligation is clear. The Commission adopted a voluntary standard for smaller companies on 3 July 2026. |
| Listed company with finance-led reporting | Connected financial and sustainability reporting (Workiva, CCH Tagetik) | Ties the sustainability statement to the annual report, with XBRL tagging and the same review controls as the accounts. |
| European company building its first dedicated ESRS process | Sustainability-focused platform (Position Green, Novisto) | Structured materiality, collection and statement workflows, with expert help where needed. |
| Large multi-entity group with many contributors | Collaborative ESG data platform (Sweep, Novisto) | Handles many data owners, validation workflows and the move to the revised ESRS, with clear ownership of each metric. |
| SAP-centred group | ERP-native module (SAP Sustainability Control Tower) plus a materiality or disclosure tool | Reuses SAP data and controls; specialist tools cover the materiality assessment and tagging. |
| Multi-site group with fragmented environmental data | Data-centred suite (IBM Envizi) | Captures site- and asset-level energy and emissions data at scale. |
| Industrial or product-heavy business | Sustainability software with data and consulting (Sphera) | Combines carbon and LCA data with expert help on materiality and ESRS readiness. |
| Export-oriented firm with several supply chain and product rules | Shared compliance platform (osapiens HUB) | Supplier data collected for EUDR, CBAM or due diligence is reused in the CSRD report. |
| Company combining CSRD with an active climate programme | Carbon and reporting platform (Watershed, Sweep) | Climate disclosures come straight from the emissions inventory that drives reduction work. |
| Non-EU group with more than €450 million in EU turnover | Multi-framework platform chosen after a group-level scope check (Workiva, Watershed, Sweep) | Maps the same data to the CSRD and to ISSB-based or US rules, ahead of first CSRD reports on financial year 2028. |
Conclusion
Choosing the right CSRD reporting software matters because the platform shapes how defensible your report is. Under the 2026 rules fewer companies are in scope, but those that remain face limited assurance, a materiality assessment auditors will test and, soon, mandatory digital tagging. A tool that cannot show where a number came from adds cost at audit time.
Needs differ by scale, regulation and industry. A listed group filing an integrated annual report needs the same review controls as its accounts, plus XBRL. An industrial company may care most about emissions and product data, while a manufacturer importing raw materials may need EUDR and CBAM covered too. Start from your internal priorities: who owns the report, where the data sits, which rules apply beyond the CSRD, and your budget and timeline to financial year 2027.
