Walmart Opens 100th EV Fast-Charging Site in Monument, Colorado

Walmart has opened its 100th company-owned and operated electric vehicle fast-charging site at a Supercenter in Monument, Colorado, extending its charging network across 100 stores in 20 states. Most Walmart EV charging locations feature 8 to 16 fast-charging stalls, with chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power, and the network supports both CCS and NACS connectors, making it compatible with most EVs currently on the road.

 

Locating charging stalls close to store entrances and integrating the charging experience directly into the Walmart app allows customers to charge their vehicles while completing a typical shopping trip, adding meaningful driving range during the time customers would otherwise spend in the store regardless. Walmart+ members receive discounted charging rates, and customers can start and pay for charging sessions through the Walmart app, with additional payment options planned as the network continues to grow.

Shayne Wahlmeier, senior vice president of Walmart Energy, said "By expanding EV fast charging at Walmart locations across the country, we're giving drivers a dependable way to charge while they're in the store." He added that reaching 100 sites was "an important milestone," and that the company's broad footprint positions it "to make EV charging more accessible for communities while expanding the ways we serve our customers."

 

Adam Happel, general manager of Walmart Retail EV Charging, said "When a customer pulls into a Walmart to charge, we want the experience to feel as reliable and effortless as the rest of their shopping trip." He said the company remains focused on "building a network customers can count on every time they charge with us." Walmart said it will continue expanding the network in markets where customers need greater access to convenient charging, working with local utilities and partners to bring new sites online, with current and upcoming locations listed on the Walmart EV Charging website, the Walmart app, and major mapping platforms including Apple Maps, Google Maps, PlugShare, Chargehub and Chargeway.
