Volvo Trucks announced plans to launch a new heavy-duty electric truck in 2025, featuring a 600 km range on a single charge. This marks a significant expansion in the company's electric truck capabilities, leveraging advanced technology.
Volvo first introduced heavy-duty electric trucks in 2020, followed by series production in 2022 with models like the Volvo FH Electric, FM Electric, and FMX Electric, offering up to 300 km of range depending on the battery.
The updated FH Electric model, expected to hit the market in the second half of 2025, will enable transport companies to operate on interregional and long-distance routes, covering a full workday without recharging.
The extended range is achieved through Volvo's new "e-axle" driveline technology, which increases battery capacity and enhances battery efficiency, management, and overall powertrain performance.
Volvo Group aims to achieve net-zero value chain emissions by 2040, with all products delivered after that year being net-zero emissions. The company's strategy focuses on battery electric, fuel cell electric, and renewable fuel combustion engines. To date, Volvo has delivered 3,800 electric trucks to customers in 46 countries.
Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm stated, "Our new electric flagship will complement our wide range of electric trucks, enabling zero-emission transport over longer distances. It's an ideal solution for transport companies committed to reducing CO2 emissions and achieving high annual mileage."
