Consumer Concern and Market Shift
A survey of 2,000 UK consumers found that 56% were initially unaware of PFAS, with awareness lowest among those over 55 (70%). However, once informed, 68% expressed concern, and 27% reported serious worry over PFAS contamination.
This heightened awareness is driving a major shift in purchasing behavior:
- 79% of consumers would choose PFAS-free products, even at a higher price.
- 9% have already transitioned to PFAS-free alternatives.
Businesses are taking note—CheckFire has launched PFAS-free Green Range fire extinguishers, prominently marked with The Green Crosshair symbol to highlight their environmental safety credentials.
Regulatory Landscape and Industry Response
The European Union is moving toward a complete PFAS ban by 2030, and UK consumers are advocating for similar regulations:
- 75% of respondents support stricter PFAS regulations.
- 43% favor an outright ban.
Industries heavily reliant on PFAS, such as fire safety, textiles, and food packaging, now face a critical shift. With growing scrutiny on PFAS’s long-term health and environmental impact, companies must adapt quickly to remain competitive.
Preparing for Industry-Wide Changes
CheckFire’s report signals both a challenge and an opportunity for businesses. Those that invest early in PFAS-free alternatives will be better positioned to:
- Meet evolving regulations.
- Gain consumer trust and loyalty.
- Differentiate themselves in an environmentally-conscious market.
With rising demand for safer solutions, companies that proactively address PFAS concerns will lead the way in a market increasingly driven by transparency and sustainability.
