Global e-commerce platform Temu has signed an agreement with Spain's Recyclia to help marketplace sellers comply with extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements for electrical and electronic equipment and batteries. Announced on 26 October 2026, the partnership will support sellers with regulatory registration, environmental reporting and waste management fee payments under Spanish and European regulations. The agreement also aims to improve access to authorized recycling systems for products sold through Temu's platform.
Recyclia administers the Ecoasimelec and Ecopilas collective EPR schemes, which support the collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries. Through the collaboration, Temu sellers will receive assistance in meeting their environmental obligations, while consumers will be able to access official collection points for disposing of eligible electronic products and used batteries. The arrangement aims to strengthen end-of-life product management and more closely integrate online marketplaces with Spain's established recycling infrastructure.

The partnership forms part of Temu's broader environmental compliance activities across Europe. The company says it has established agreements with more than 60 authorized EPR schemes covering product categories including packaging, batteries and electrical equipment. These arrangements aim to help sellers navigate different national regulatory requirements and support local waste collection and recycling systems. Recyclia stated, "This partnership represents an important milestone in the way marketplaces can support their sellers in complying with their regulatory obligations."
Temu entered the Spanish market in 2023 and expanded its marketplace to European sellers in 2024. A Temu spokesperson said, "This collaboration with Recyclia enables Temu sellers to more easily comply with their extended producer responsibility obligations under Spanish and European regulations." The agreement reflects growing attention to online marketplaces' responsibilities in facilitating environmental compliance and product recycling. However, the announcement does not disclose expected collection volumes, recycling targets or verified environmental improvements resulting from the partnership.
