Sosteneo, the clean energy infrastructure investment manager within Generali Investments, has secured over €150 million in new fund commitments and co-investment capital at the first external close of its Sosteneo Clean Energy Infrastructure Fund II. Announced on 15 October 2026, the fundraising brings total capital commitments for the Fund II vintage to more than €450 million, while Sosteneo's broader investment platform now represents over €1.1 billion in capital. The fund will target construction-ready renewable energy and electrification infrastructure across European markets.
The first external close includes renewed backing from the largest external institutional investor in Sosteneo's first fund, commitments from new institutional investors and an increased allocation from Generali Insurance Companies, the cornerstone investor in Sosteneo's flagship funds. The fundraising comes as Sosteneo's first infrastructure portfolio advances into its operational phase, providing investors with a clearer view of the manager's approach to developing and managing clean energy assets.
Institutional Investors Increase Commitments to Sosteneo
The latest commitments expand Sosteneo's institutional investor base while reinforcing support from existing investors. The combination of returning and new capital is particularly relevant for infrastructure investment strategies, where investors assess project development experience, construction risk management and the ability to generate predictable operating income.
Chris Deves, Partner and Head of Investor Relations at Sosteneo, said, "The close also further broadens our institutional investor base and provides a strong foundation as we continue the Fund II raise." The announcement does not disclose the fund's final fundraising target, the number of new investors or the allocation between direct fund commitments and co-investment capital. Fund II remains open to eligible professional investors.

Fund I Begins Distributions as Projects Become Operational
Sosteneo's first clean energy infrastructure fund has reached a more mature stage, with approximately three-quarters of its 39 projects now fully operational. During the second quarter of 2026, the fund began distributing income generated by operating assets to investors. In the third quarter, it also signed an agreement to sell an interest in an operational asset, marking its first partial realisation.
These developments are significant because infrastructure investments typically require capital during construction before generating operating revenue. Moving projects into operation reduces exposure to certain construction and delivery risks and allows investors to assess actual cash flows. The first partial realisation also demonstrates a potential route to recovering invested capital, although Sosteneo has not disclosed the transaction value, achieved returns or whether the sale has been completed.
Umberto Tamburrino, Managing Partner and CEO of Sosteneo, said, "The commencement of income distributions and the signing of our first partial realisation represent further steps in the maturation of the portfolio." The operational progress of Fund I provides context for the launch of Fund II, but the financial performance of the two vehicles will depend on their respective investments and market conditions.
Fund II Targets Construction-Ready Energy Infrastructure
Sosteneo Fund II will focus on clean energy infrastructure at or near the construction-ready stage, with investments across solar, wind, battery storage, electricity grids and associated technologies. Its strategy covers three parts of the energy system: improving electricity system flexibility, expanding clean energy supply and supporting the decarbonisation of industrial energy demand.
The fund plans to invest primarily through equity and equity-like instruments in European infrastructure projects. By entering after substantial project development work has been completed but before commercial operations begin, Sosteneo aims to capture value during construction and the transition into operation. This approach requires expertise in procurement, project financing, revenue contracting and construction management, as projects remain exposed to delivery delays, cost increases and changing electricity market conditions.

European Electrification Creates Opportunities Beyond Renewable Generation
Fund II's investment strategy reflects the growing need for infrastructure that can support higher renewable electricity generation and increasing electricity demand. Battery storage can help manage variations in wind and solar output, while grid infrastructure and related technologies support the integration of additional clean power capacity.
For infrastructure investors, this creates opportunities beyond building renewable generation facilities. Projects that improve flexibility, strengthen electricity supply or support industrial electrification can provide different revenue opportunities, depending on market design and contractual arrangements. However, long-term investment returns will still depend on financing costs, regulatory frameworks, operating performance and the reliability of contracted revenues.
Sosteneo has not yet disclosed individual Fund II project acquisitions or deployment targets by technology. The next stage of its strategy will be measured by how effectively the new capital is committed to projects, brought through construction and converted into operating assets capable of generating the stable cash flows sought by institutional investors.
