Chestnut Carbon has delivered Improved Forest Management carbon removal credits to Sol Systems for the second consecutive year, extending a partnership that began in 2025 when Sol Systems, a US clean energy developer and independent power producer, first purchased credits to offset emissions tied to construction of its Prairie Creek solar project in Illinois. This year's credits will offset Sol Systems' broader corporate footprint alongside emissions associated with construction of its Tilden and Eldorado I and II solar projects, also in Illinois. No credit volume or transaction value was disclosed.
Chestnut's Improved Forest Management program enables private forest landowners across the United States to access carbon credit markets, generating a new source of revenue that helps cover forest management costs, property taxes and long-term planning, while reducing landowners' reliance on timber harvesting revenue as their primary income source from the land. That structure gives forest owners a financial incentive to manage their land for carbon storage and forest health rather than logging, since carbon credit revenue can substitute for at least part of the income that would otherwise come from harvesting timber.

Moving Sustainable Procurement Beyond Cost to Strategic Value Creation

Both companies frame the partnership around geographic alignment, with Chestnut's Midwest forest project footprint giving Sol Systems the opportunity to source carbon credits from the same region where its solar projects are being built, rather than purchasing credits generated in an unrelated part of the country. Chestnut's Brian DiMarino, chief operating and commercial officer, described the relationship as reflecting a shared belief that sustainable infrastructure should deliver meaningful local benefits. Sol Systems' Juliana Isaac, director of sustainability and ecosystem impact, said sourcing local, high-quality Improved Forest Management credits allows the company to extend its impact beyond clean energy generation into land stewardship and local economic resilience in the regions where it operates.
