ScrubMarine, a UK-based startup developing autonomous subsea robotics for maritime inspection and maintenance, has raised €849,000 ($1 million) in a pre-seed funding round to advance engineering development, expand its team, and enter its next phase of growth.
Investor Backing and Funding Details
The round was supported by PXN Ventures and SFC Capital, alongside strategic angel investors Colin Greene and Graham Westgarth. According to reports, SFC Capital and PXN Ventures acted as lead investors in the raise.
Addressing Legacy Subsea Operations
Founded by Rohith Devanathan and Clyne Albertelli, and headquartered in Whitehaven, Cumbria, ScrubMarine is focused on replacing legacy, labour-intensive, and high-risk subsea processes with autonomous robotic systems. The company aims to improve safety, efficiency, and scalability in underwater inspection and maintenance tasks.
Robotics Platform and Use Cases
ScrubMarine develops compact, deployable underwater robots designed for applications including hull inspection and cleaning, as well as offshore maintenance for wind energy and oil infrastructure. Its platform integrates modular robotics with cloud-based data analytics to provide ongoing visibility into the condition of vessels and offshore assets.
Building Momentum in Maritime Innovation
The funding follows earlier progress for the startup, including acceptance into the 2025 Global Business Innovation Programme run by Innovate UK and the UK Department for Transport. In 2024, ScrubMarine raised approximately €229,000 in pre-seed funding led by Praetura Ventures, supporting its early development phase.
