SAP has inaugurated its inaugural ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center in Kaohsiung, marking a pivotal move towards accelerating sustainable transformation across Taiwan. This new center is dedicated to advancing digital and AI-driven sustainability solutions for local businesses, assisting them in achieving net-zero emissions and adhering to global sustainability standards.
“Taiwan plays a crucial role in the global supply chain,” remarked Chen Zhiwei, SAP Global Vice President and General Manager for Taiwan. “Our objective with this center is to deploy SAP’s cutting-edge technologies to address local needs for sustainable supply chain management and carbon reduction.”
The center has introduced Taiwan’s first SGS-validated greenhouse gas inventory solution, tailored specifically for Taiwanese companies. This pioneering solution is designed to streamline the inventory process, ensuring precise data and compliance with Ministry of Environment guidelines.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Net-zero carbon emissions is a global challenge. The Kaohsiung City Government, through initiatives like the Net Zero Academy and Yawan Smart Technology Innovation Park, is dedicated to supporting local businesses in their journey toward net-zero transformation.”
SAP’s new offerings harness AI to enhance ESG reporting and carbon management. The AI-powered tools enable companies to produce detailed reports aligned with European standards, reducing manual effort by 75%. Moreover, SAP’s generative AI capabilities aid in estimating carbon emissions and automating data mapping, cutting time and costs associated with these processes by 80%.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of SAP’s new center. The company is forging partnerships with local government, industry, and academic institutions, including National Cheng Kung University, to address technology and talent gaps in sustainability. This collaboration aims to cultivate a new generation of professionals ready to lead Taiwan’s green transformation.
With global corporate spending on ESG and sustainability projected to reach $65 billion by 2027, SAP’s Kaohsiung ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center is strategically positioned to help Taiwanese businesses seize emerging opportunities in the global green economy.
