Banco Santander reported €188 billion in green finance raised or facilitated since 2019 by the end of the first half of 2026, putting the bank at more than 85 percent of its €220 billion target for 2030. The bank raised or facilitated €14 billion in green finance during the first six months of the year, split between €7.1 billion in the first quarter and €6.9 billion in the second.
Second-quarter activity included Santander's participation in Solaria's €300 million capital increase to fund clean energy for data centres, wind power and battery storage, alongside financing for two US solar and storage projects, Foxtail Flats and Four Mile Mesa, and leadership roles in transactions issued under the European Green Bond standard.

The bank's 2026 progress follows a 2025 in which it mobilised €34.6 billion in green finance, up 29 percent on 2024, bringing its cumulative total to €174 billion by the end of that year. According to Infralogic, Santander also became the world's leading bank in renewable energy financing in 2025 by both number of transactions and value, closing 100 deals worth €12.244 billion, up 22 percent on the prior year, giving it a 5.58 percent market share. The bank states the renewable energy greenfield projects it financed or oversaw in 2025 accounted for 16.8 GW of new capacity.
Santander's current €220 billion target for 2019 to 2030 follows its earlier €120 billion target for 2025, which the bank says it achieved ahead of schedule. The bank frames its green finance activity as part of a broader strategy supporting customers through the transition and pursuing business opportunities from the transformation of sectors including energy, transport, industry and construction toward a more sustainable economy.
