Redstone Reaches First Close of €25 Million Blue Economy Fund

Redstone Reaches First Close of €25 Million Blue Economy Fund

Redstone has announced the first close of Redstone Blue, a €25 million fund targeting ocean technology ventures, backed by angel investors, family offices, foundations, institutions and corporations connected to the maritime industry. Named backers supporting the first close include the City of Turku, Meriaura Invest, Aboa Advest, LähiTapiola, Kelonia, Rausanne, Adamo Capital, and individual investors Henrik Paasikivi and Magnus Kihlgren, among others.

Based in the Nordics with a European investment mandate, Redstone Blue invests from pre-seed through Series A stage across four thematic areas: maritime and ports, energy, water technologies, and marine data and observation. The fund positions oceans and water as what it describes as defining investment frontiers of the 21st century, citing the ocean's role covering more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface, producing roughly half the planet's oxygen, and holding more than 95 percent of the Earth's biosphere, alongside its underlying role in climate stability, food supply, medicine, energy, trade and logistics globally.

The fund's four target areas span both climate-adjacent technology, including ocean energy and marine data used for climate and environmental monitoring, and more commercially established maritime infrastructure sectors like ports and shipping logistics, giving the fund's thesis a broad scope across the maritime economy rather than confining itself to a single narrow ocean technology category. Redstone frames its approach around backing founders building for market-based financial returns while simultaneously modernising established maritime industries and supporting what it describes as the transition to a sustainable blue economy, positioning the fund's investment thesis around commercial viability alongside its environmental and industry modernisation goals rather than treating them as separate objectives.
