Plenitude and Methagora have signed a long-term agreement covering the sourcing of 50 GWh of biomethane annually in France over a 15-year period. The agreement aligns with France’s Biomethane Production Certificates scheme, which supports the development and certification of domestically produced renewable gas.
The partnership provides Plenitude with stable, certified biomethane volumes while offering Methagora long-term revenue visibility to scale agricultural biomethane production.
Supporting France’s Biomethane Expansion
Under the agreement, Methagora will supply biomethane sourced from multiple agricultural regions across France. The arrangement is structured under the national Biomethane Production Certificates framework, which is designed to incentivize producers while ensuring that end consumers can access traceable renewable gas.
The volumes secured through the agreement will contribute to strengthening France’s biomethane market, which plays a growing role in the country’s strategy to decarbonise gas consumption and reduce reliance on fossil imports.

Long-Term Positioning in the French Market
Plenitude, controlled by Eni, has established a significant presence in France across retail energy and renewables. The company serves nearly one million retail customers in the country and operates approximately 1 GW of installed renewable capacity. It is also expanding in the electric vehicle charging segment.
The biomethane agreement adds a new dimension to Plenitude’s French portfolio, reinforcing its role in integrating renewable electricity, low-carbon gas, and downstream energy services.
Methagora’s Conversion Model
Methagora focuses on converting existing agricultural methanation sites that currently valorise biogas through cogeneration into injection-ready biomethane facilities. Its model involves installing purification units, compressors and related infrastructure to enable grid injection.
The company has already converted five sites, representing 35 GWh of biomethane sold, and plans to double capacity in 2026. By targeting operational methanation assets, Methagora aims to accelerate the transition from electricity-based biogas use to higher-value biomethane injection.

A Structured Framework for Renewable Gas Growth
The agreement reflects a broader European trend toward long-term offtake contracts to underpin renewable gas investment. Certificate-backed structures such as the French BPC scheme are becoming increasingly central to scaling biomethane production while maintaining traceability and regulatory compliance.
With secured volumes and a defined regulatory framework, the Plenitude–Methagora partnership provides a structured pathway for expanding France’s renewable gas capacity over the next decade and beyond.
