The Earthshot Prize has announced a partnership with NVIDIA to provide artificial intelligence (AI) computing resources, engineering expertise and technical training to environmental innovators worldwide. Announced on 14 October 2026, the collaboration brings NVIDIA into The Earthshot Prize's Global Alliance as a Founding Partner, with an immediate commitment to support finalists developing solutions for climate change, biodiversity loss, ocean protection, air pollution and waste management.
Through the partnership, Earthshot finalists will gain access to NVIDIA's accelerated computing technologies, AI development tools and specialist engineering support. The initiative aims to help environmental organisations improve climate risk predictions, monitor ecosystems, accelerate scientific research and develop technologies that can be deployed at a larger scale. NVIDIA will provide technical resources and support at no cost to finalists, although the announcement does not disclose a financial value for the partnership.
AI Computing and Engineering Support for Environmental Innovators
The partnership will connect Earthshot finalists with NVIDIA Inception, the company's programme supporting start-ups through developer tools, technical training and access to its partner ecosystem. Participants will also receive dedicated educational resources covering open AI models and NVIDIA Earth-2, a collection of technologies designed for weather forecasting and climate modelling.
Another component is access to NVIDIA DGX Spark systems, compact desktop AI computers that allow developers to build, test and run AI models locally. Finalists will receive relevant training and additional engineering assistance beyond the standard NVIDIA Inception programme. These resources could be particularly useful for environmental start-ups working with large datasets, complex simulations and AI models that require substantial computing capacity.

Applications Across Climate, Nature and Clean Technology
The collaboration will support innovations across The Earthshot Prize's five environmental categories: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate. AI applications could include analysing environmental observations, improving weather and climate forecasts, identifying changes in ecosystems and optimising the performance of clean energy technologies.
For smaller organisations, developing these capabilities independently can require considerable technical expertise and computing resources. NVIDIA's involvement could help finalists test models, improve research processes and bring new environmental technologies closer to practical deployment. However, the announcement does not identify specific projects selected for NVIDIA support or provide quantified environmental impact targets. The eventual benefits will depend on how finalists apply the technology and demonstrate measurable results.
Earthshot's Global Network of Environmental Solutions
Founded by Prince William in 2020, The Earthshot Prize identifies and supports environmental solutions with the potential for wider deployment. Its network of more than 400 expert nominators has developed a pipeline of nearly 7,000 solutions from 169 countries. Each year, the initiative selects 15 finalists, with five winners receiving £1 million each to advance their work.
The programme has supported 90 finalists since its launch and aims to reach 150 by 2030. Beyond financial awards, Earthshot connects innovators with investors, corporate partners and policymakers to help them access expertise, funding and commercial opportunities. Jason Knauf, Chief Executive Officer of The Earthshot Prize, welcomed NVIDIA's participation, describing it as "a transformational opportunity for our community."

Expanding the Role of AI in Environmental Innovation
NVIDIA's participation reflects growing interest in applying advanced computing and AI to environmental challenges. Its Earth-2 technologies are designed to support weather and climate modelling, while its broader computing infrastructure can assist with scientific research, data analysis and technology development. The partnership could give Earthshot finalists access to capabilities that would otherwise be difficult for smaller organisations to obtain.
Jensen Huang of NVIDIA highlighted the potential of advanced computing to accelerate scientific and technological progress. He said the partnership would help innovators "discover new sources of sustainable energy, invent materials that require fewer resources, and turn scientific breakthroughs into the technologies and industries" supporting sustainable development.
The collaboration provides Earthshot finalists with technical support rather than a newly announced investment fund. Its value will therefore depend on whether improved access to computing, engineering and AI development tools helps participating organisations move from early-stage innovations to solutions that can operate reliably and deliver measurable environmental benefits.
