Norges Bank Commits €1.2 Billion to CIP’s CI VI Renewable Energy Fund

Norges Bank Commits €1.2 Billion to CIP’s CI VI Renewable Energy Fund

Norges Bank Investment Management has committed €1.2 billion to Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ sixth flagship renewable energy fund, CI VI, extending a partnership between the two investors that began with a €900 million commitment to CI V in 2024. The agreement was signed on 1 October 2026 and will give NBIM further exposure to renewable energy projects at the development stage.

CI VI will primarily invest in renewable energy generation and storage projects across OECD markets in North America, Western Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The strategy gives NBIM access to projects before they reach full operation, allowing capital to support the development and construction of new clean energy infrastructure rather than only mature operating assets.

The latest commitment is €300 million larger than NBIM’s investment in CIP’s previous flagship fund. That increase shows a larger allocation to the partnership as the Norwegian investor continues building its exposure to unlisted renewable energy infrastructure. NBIM manages these investments through subsidiary structures established by Norges Bank.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners focuses on energy infrastructure and uses its flagship funds to invest across large-scale renewable generation and related assets. By including both renewable generation and storage, CI VI is positioned across two increasingly connected parts of the energy system, as higher renewable penetration creates more demand for flexible storage capacity.

Harald von Heyden, Global Head of Energy and Infrastructure at Norges Bank Investment Management, said CI VI would allow the fund to continue investing in renewable energy projects at the development stage while building on the partnership established with CIP in 2024.
