The Global Framework on Chemicals has launched its first funding call to support sustainable management projects in vulnerable countries, offering grants of $300,000 to $800,000 over three years.
A year after its adoption in Bonn, the Global Framework on Chemicals has launched its first call for project proposals focused on the safe management of chemicals and waste. This initiative seeks to assist vulnerable countries in implementing sustainable practices to reduce risks from hazardous substances.
Established during the Fifth International Conference on Chemicals Management in September 2023, the framework includes a trust fund to support low- and middle-income nations, including small island developing states, in complying with international guidelines.
Selected projects will receive funding between $300,000 and $800,000 over three years, aiming to enhance public health and environmental protection. Applicants must secure at least 25% in co-financing or in-kind contributions, with both government and civil society organizations eligible to apply.
The fund targets medium-scale projects that strengthen capabilities in chemicals management and align with national policies. Priority will be given to initiatives demonstrating long-term sustainability.
With initial backing of around $27 million from Germany and contributions from several other countries, the fund complements efforts to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss. Informational webinars will be held to guide potential applicants through the process.
