Major Solar Initiative: Microsoft has committed to purchasing all renewable energy generated by EDP's SolarNova 8 project, the largest solar undertaking in Singapore.
Long-Term Partnership: This 20-year agreement strengthens their collaboration on clean energy, advancing Microsoft's renewable energy objectives.
Supporting Sustainability: The project plays a vital role in helping Singapore achieve its goal of 2GW peak solar energy by 2030.
EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Microsoft are expanding their clean energy efforts in Singapore. As part of a new 20-year deal, Microsoft will acquire 100% of the renewable energy produced by EDPR's SolarNova 8 project. This initiative is part of Singapore's broader SolarNova program, which seeks to install up to 200MWp of solar capacity across more than 1,000 public housing buildings and over 100 government-owned facilities.
Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, CEO of EDP and EDPR, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, "This collaboration strengthens EDP's global alliance with Microsoft and advances Singapore's sustainability goals of reaching at least 2GW peak solar energy by 2030. Contracting with Microsoft accelerates the energy transition and supports continued investment in the region."
This deal marks the second collaboration between EDPR and Microsoft in Singapore, building on a partnership that began in 2018. The long-term agreement not only drives the development of new solar projects but also aligns with Microsoft's commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy across its operations.
Adrian Anderson, General Manager for Renewables and Carbon-Free Energy at Microsoft, commended the partnership, saying, "Our global relationship with EDPR is crucial in driving grid decarbonization efforts in Singapore, the US, and Europe. Expanding our renewable energy portfolio with EDPR ensures we meet our ambitious sustainability goals."
Through this collaboration, EDP and Microsoft are making significant contributions to Singapore's renewable energy ambitions while setting a precedent for sustainable partnerships.
