METYCLE raised $14.8M to streamline metal recycling using AI sorting and digital tracking. By enhancing efficiency, it cuts CO₂ emissions by 95% and enables a more sustainable metals industry.
Cologne-based metal recycling startup METYCLE has secured €14.4 million ($14.8 million) in Series A funding to expand its digital platform for buying and selling recycled and scrap metal. The company aims to bring efficiency to the global metal recycling market, reducing both costs and carbon emissions.
Transforming the Scrap Metal Market
Using recycled metals can cut carbon emissions by up to 95% compared to primary production while being 10% cheaper. However, the secondary metals market remains inefficient, often relying on manual inspections or photo-based assessments.
Founded in 2022 by Rafael Suchan and Sebastian Brenner, METYCLE's platform connects scrap metal sellers with recyclers worldwide, ensuring better classification and transparency.
The company is also developing AI-powered sorting and check hubs to evaluate metal composition and quality before smelting. Once assessed, metals will receive a digital product pass, allowing real-time tracking of material flow and CO₂ savings from source to smelter.

Industry Leaders Back METYCLE’s Vision
Rafael Suchan, co-founder of METYCLE, stated:
"Metal recycling is crucial for the transition to a carbon-neutral world. Recycling does not only ensure circularity of metals, but also helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 95% compared to primary metal production. Today, already more than one-third of global metal production is based on recycled metals, and METYCLE makes the global metal recycling industry more efficient and transparent with the help of state-of-the-art technology.”
The funding round was led by 2150, a sustainability-focused VC firm, alongside existing investors DFF Ventures, Market One Capital, Partech, and Project A.
2150 emphasized METYCLE’s impact, stating:
"By improving the efficiency of the scrap metal trade and promoting the use of recycled materials, METYCLE is directly addressing the environmental footprint of the metals industry. Their efforts will help reduce GHG emissions, conserve resources, and move us closer to a truly circular economy."
With this funding, METYCLE aims to redefine metal recycling efficiency and transparency, contributing to a sustainable future.
