Meta has partnered with ENGIE North America to secure 260 MW of solar energy from the Sypert Branch project in Texas, aimed at supporting its net-zero goals
Meta and ENGIE North America have finalized a significant Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement (EAPA) that will supply 260 megawatts (MW) of solar energy from the Sypert Branch project in Milam County, Texas. This partnership is pivotal for Meta as it aligns with the company's ambitious net-zero emissions goals.
The Sypert Branch project, expected to commence operations in late 2025, will deliver the entire 260 MW output to Meta, supporting its data center located in Temple, Texas, just 70 miles from the solar facility. This initiative is projected to create over 300 local jobs during construction and generate more than $69 million in tax revenue, benefiting nearby schools and communities.
ENGIE's Chief Renewables Officer, Dave Carroll, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are proud that ENGIE’s proven track record in developing, building, and operating renewable assets puts us at the forefront of the energy transition." He emphasized the importance of this agreement in supporting Meta's growth and net-zero commitments.
With this deal, Meta's renewable energy portfolio now exceeds 12 gigawatts (GW). Urvi Parekh, Head of Clean Energy at Meta, highlighted the importance of partnerships like this in facilitating the renewable energy transition, reinforcing the company's commitment to maintaining net-zero emissions in its global operations since 2020.
The Sypert Branch project is a key component of ENGIE’s strategy, contributing to nearly 1 GW of signed U.S. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in 2024 alone. ENGIE's leading role in corporate PPAs underscores its commitment to advancing clean energy solutions across North America.
