The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the world’s largest religious and cultural gathering, has commenced with fervor at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Running from January 13 to February 26, this grand festival brings together millions of devotees, including ascetics, saints, and pilgrims, for a holy dip in the Ganges River and cultural festivities.

This year, the event is setting an example of environmental responsibility through innovative sustainability initiatives. Coca-Cola India, in collaboration with Anandana, PHDRDF, and the Prayagraj Mela Authority, has launched the Maidaan Saaf Campaign, aimed at waste management and recycling.

Key highlights include the distribution of 21,500 jackets made from recycled plastic to sanitation workers, boatmen, and volunteers. Additionally, 1,000 changing rooms for women, constructed entirely from recycled multi-layered plastic, ensure safety and privacy while promoting the importance of recycling. These rooms are adorned with artwork by renowned Indian artists to educate attendees about waste segregation and recycling practices.

Devyani Rana, Vice President of Coca-Cola India, emphasized: "At Coca-Cola India, we believe in the power of innovation to drive meaningful change. Through Maidaan Saaf, we aim to unite millions of visitors in collective action to help reduce waste."

The campaign also features Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) at high-traffic locations, allowing attendees to dispose of plastic responsibly, and Hydration Carts placed every 400 meters, providing 24/7 access to drinking water. These hydration stations feature creative illustrations that encourage sustainable behavior.

Vivek Vyas, CEO of PHDRDF, highlighted the significance of the partnership: "By introducing recycled plastic initiatives like changing rooms, life jackets, and hydration kiosks, we are setting a benchmark for a cleaner, safer, and eco-conscious Kumbh."

With such initiatives, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 exemplifies how modern innovation and traditional values can unite to create a sustainable, impactful future for one of India’s most cherished traditions.
