Infosys has broadened its partnership with ExxonMobil to accelerate the deployment of immersion cooling technologies designed for high-performance AI data centres. The expanded collaboration focuses on integrating ExxonMobil’s Data Centre Immersion Fluids with Infosys’ artificial intelligence and cloud platforms to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational strain in next-generation digital infrastructure.
As generative AI workloads intensify computing requirements, cooling and power consumption have emerged as primary constraints to scaling data centre capacity. The partnership aims to address these limitations by combining advanced thermal management fluids with AI-driven optimisation tools.
Immersion Cooling as a Scaling Mechanism
Traditional air-cooling systems are increasingly challenged by the heat generated from dense AI computing clusters. Immersion cooling offers an alternative model, submerging servers in specially engineered dielectric fluids that absorb and dissipate heat more effectively than air.
ExxonMobil’s immersion fluids are designed to enhance thermal transfer efficiency, enabling higher compute density while reducing electricity demand for cooling systems. This approach can maximise available power within existing facilities and extend infrastructure lifespan without proportionate increases in energy consumption.
By improving cooling efficiency, immersion systems also allow enterprises to support larger AI workloads within constrained power envelopes. This is particularly relevant as hyperscale and enterprise data centres seek to expand capacity without triggering unsustainable energy growth.

Under the expanded pact, Infosys will combine ExxonMobil’s immersion fluid solutions with Infosys Topaz and Infosys Cobalt. Topaz, the company’s AI-first suite of platforms and services, will be deployed to optimise cooling operations in real time, using predictive analytics to enhance energy efficiency and support proactive maintenance strategies.
Cobalt will provide a secure and scalable cloud foundation for enterprises adopting these advanced cooling infrastructures. The combined framework is intended to deliver an integrated solution where AI not only drives enterprise applications but also governs the performance and sustainability of the underlying physical infrastructure.
According to Ashiss Kumar Dash, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Services, Utilities, Resources, Energy and Enterprise Sustainability at Infosys, the expanded engagement reflects a critical step in modernising digital infrastructure to support high-performance AI workloads responsibly.
