Hyundai Launches Hydrogen Buses for Abu Dhabi's Green Transport Initiative

Hyundai deploys hydrogen buses in Abu Dhabi’s Green Bus Programme, advancing sustainable transport while fostering Emirati expertise in hydrogen and electric vehicle technologies.

Hyundai has partnered with UAE distributor Juma Al Majid Company to deliver hydrogen fuel cell buses under Abu Dhabi’s Green Bus Programme. This initiative, led by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), aims to explore and integrate sustainable technologies into the UAE's public transport system, emphasizing hydrogen and electric solutions tailored to the region's unique environmental conditions.

The two hydrogen buses, Elec City FC and Universe FC, are operational on City Route 65 and Regional Route 160, respectively, and will undergo evaluation until the end of 2025. This project focuses on enhancing public transport sustainability while building Emirati expertise in advanced technologies through specialized training programs.

A Step Towards Sustainability

Hyundai’s involvement in Abu Dhabi’s Green Bus Programme highlights its broader commitment to creating a hydrogen-powered future in the Middle East. The company has been a pioneer in hydrogen fuel cell technology, previously introducing hydrogen vehicles in the UAE.

“We are proud to embark on this transformative journey with ITC towards sustainable and innovative transportation solutions,” said Suliman Al Zaben, Director of Hyundai UAE. “The delivery of these advanced hydrogen-powered buses to ITC marks a new chapter in our commitment to promoting clean energy and pioneering technologies in the region.”

Why It Matters

The Green Bus Programme is designed to assess innovative transport solutions and promote collaboration with global manufacturers. By integrating cutting-edge hydrogen technology with local expertise, the initiative sets a benchmark for sustainable mobility in the UAE, contributing to broader regional efforts to build a hydrogen economy.

This program not only supports environmental goals but also enhances skills development among Emirati professionals, empowering them to engage with advanced electric and hydrogen technologies.

Hyundai’s role in this initiative demonstrates its alignment with global sustainability goals and its commitment to shaping the future of green transport in the Middle East.
