HKILA and The Nature Conservancy Sign MoU on Nature-Based Solutions

The Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects and The Nature Conservancy signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Pak Nai, Hong Kong, to advance Nature-based Solutions, ecological restoration, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience across Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The agreement was signed by HKILA President Dr. Yin-lun Chan and TNC Executive Director for Hong Kong and Regional Partnerships Anthony Gao, witnessed by Legislative Councillors Julia Lau Man-kwan and Chan Pok-chi.

 

The partnership covers four scope areas: joint ecological restoration projects spanning wetland, terrestrial and marine environments in the Northern Metropolis, Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area; developing Nature-based Solutions policy advisory recommendations for the HKSAR Government, particularly for integration into the Northern Metropolis development; public education, community engagement and thought leadership activities across Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region; and cross-border knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary research collaboration to scale Nature-based Solutions across the region.

Dr. Yin-lun Chan said "landscape architects stand at the intersection of built environments and natural ecosystems," describing the partnership as reinforcing HKILA's commitment to "embedding Nature-based Solutions directly into Hong Kong's major growth engines, such as the Northern Metropolis." Anthony Gao said addressing "the intertwined challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change requires collaboration across sectors and disciplines," describing the partnership as providing "a strong foundation for advancing nature-based solutions that restore ecosystems, enhance biodiversity and strengthen community resilience."
