Gridsight, an AI-powered grid capacity management platform for utilities, has raised a $26 million Series B led by Insight Partners, with participation from Galvanize and existing investors Airtree, Energy Transition Ventures and Aera VC. The funding will accelerate the company's US expansion while supporting continued growth in Australia, where the company was founded.
Gridsight's platform is built to address a specific gap in how utilities manage rising electricity demand: the company states that as much as three-quarters of existing grid capacity goes unused on average, varying by location, time of day and season, meaning significant infrastructure needed to accommodate new demand from data centres, EVs and electrification may already exist but isn't being used efficiently. Rather than relying solely on new construction, which faces climbing costs and lengthening timelines, Gridsight's platform gives utilities real-time visibility into available network capacity and tools to act on it.

At the core of the platform is Gridsight's Foundational Grid Model, a continuously updated, utility-specific representation combining fragmented grid data with electrical physics, which the company says distinguishes its approach from general-purpose AI applications. Gridsight is already deployed with US utilities including Xcel Energy and United Illuminating, an Avangrid subsidiary. In Australia, Endeavour Energy used the platform's real-time dynamic control to double static solar export capacity for households from 5 kilowatts to 10 kilowatts, a change expected to unlock more than $100 million in value for customers and 600 megawatts of additional solar capacity for the grid.
Gridsight co-founder and CEO Brendan Banfield said "the grid's capacity challenge is not uniform," noting significant capacity exists for much of the year but is "uneven, dynamic and geographically dependent." Insight Partners Managing Director Rachel Geller said "the energy transition is stress-testing utility networks in ways they were never designed to handle," describing Gridsight's platform as providing "the intelligence, visibility, and control needed to unlock latent capacity."
