GridCARE Raises $64 Million Series A to Scale AI-Powered Grid Capacity Platform for Data Centres

GridCARE Raises $64 Million Series A to Scale AI-Powered Grid Capacity Platform for Data Centres

GridCARE has closed a $64 million oversubscribed Series A financing led by Sutter Hill Ventures, with participation from legendary investor John Doerr, National Grid Partners, Future Energy Ventures, Emerson Collective, Stanford University and several existing backers. The round is centred on a single thesis that power, not compute, has become the defining constraint for the AI economy, and backs GridCARE's Energize platform, which uses physics-based AI to identify and unlock latent capacity within the existing grid. The company has already unlocked more than $10 billion in economic value for data centre developers by bringing hundreds of megawatts online years ahead of schedule, and is currently engaged in projects spanning more than a dozen markets representing over 2 gigawatts of new AI compute capacity.

The Time-to-Energize Crisis

Despite grid utilisation sitting at approximately 30 percent according to Stanford analysis, meaning the majority of existing power infrastructure remains unused under normal operating conditions, delivering power to new large-scale AI infrastructure projects currently takes six to ten years and costs hundreds of millions of dollars in upgrades. This mismatch between available grid capacity and the speed of access defines what GridCARE describes as the Time-to-Energize Crisis. Amit Narayan, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GridCARE, said the gap between when power is needed and when it can be delivered is emerging as one of the most significant constraints on growth in the AI economy, slowing innovation across health, education and climate while putting national security and competitiveness at risk.

Vic Miller, Managing Director at Sutter Hill Ventures, said that a year ago few people were talking about power as a bottleneck for AI but that today it is the rate-limiting step for the entire industry. He emphasised that power sits beneath every other layer of the AI stack, and framed Power Acceleration as the key technology enabling the AI economy to scale. John Doerr, whose investment track record spans Amazon, Google and Netscape, said GridCARE delivers affordable, sustainable energy by unlocking capacity in the grid already built, connecting grid optimisation directly to broader AI-driven progress in medicine, science and climate.

How the Energize Platform Works

GridCARE's Energize platform applies physics-based AI to evaluate quadrillions of grid conditions in real time, modelling congestion, outages, weather and demand variability simultaneously to identify capacity that traditional interconnection processes cannot detect. By making this hidden capacity visible and accessible, the platform compresses interconnection timelines from years to months, allowing AI factories, utilities and energy providers to bring gigawatts of new power online and operate it reliably at the speed the AI economy demands. Ram Rajagopal, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at GridCARE and a tenured Stanford professor on leave to build the company, said the largest source of new power for the AI economy is not waiting to be built but is already in the ground, hidden in the existing grid.

The platform is designed to work in deep collaboration with utilities rather than bypassing them, aligning with the operational realities and regulatory obligations of the entities that own and operate grid infrastructure. Steve Smith, President of National Grid Partners and Group Chief Strategy Officer at National Grid, said the fastest and least-expensive way to add capacity is to unlock the megawatts already hidden within the existing system. National Grid Partners is deepening its commitment as both an investor and a commercial collaborator, extending joint work into additional markets following earlier engagement with GridCARE.

Validated Deployments and Commercial Traction

In October 2025, GridCARE validated its model in a joint project with Portland General Electric in Hillsboro, Oregon, one of the top United States data centre markets, unlocking a path to over 400 megawatts of capacity with the first 80 megawatts arriving in 2026. The Oregon deployment provides a credible reference case demonstrating that the platform can operate within a real utility environment and deliver meaningful capacity increases within commercially relevant timelines. The combination of validated deployment and oversubscribed financing reflects growing conviction among investors and utilities that software-led grid optimisation can address the power access problem at the pace AI infrastructure requires.

GridCARE is now engaged across more than a dozen markets, providing a foundation for continued commercial expansion. The company will host the inaugural GridCARE Power Acceleration Summit in September 2026, convening leaders from across AI and energy ecosystems to define the emerging Power Acceleration category. The summit reflects an intent to shape market definition and industry dialogue around a category the company is pioneering.

Outlook for Power Acceleration as an Asset Class

The GridCARE Series A reinforces a broader recognition across the technology and energy sectors that grid access has become a strategic bottleneck limiting AI infrastructure deployment. As hyperscale operators, AI start-ups and cloud providers continue to race to expand compute capacity, the companies able to compress power delivery timelines will become critical infrastructure providers in their own right. The participation of utility strategics alongside leading AI-era venture investors signals that this opportunity is being recognised across both sides of the energy and technology divide.

Whether GridCARE can sustain its commercial momentum and establish Power Acceleration as a recognised category will depend on continued platform deployment, utility partnership depth and the trajectory of AI-driven power demand. Sustained execution would position GridCARE as one of the most strategically important clean technology companies of the decade, addressing a constraint that sits beneath virtually every other component of the AI infrastructure stack. The convergence of AI investment, grid modernisation need and climate-aligned capacity optimisation creates a rare alignment of commercial and systemic importance.
